"UNCLE GEORGE: The Music Man" is the story of George Daniels, famed Chicago record retailer, who opened GEORGE'S MUSIC ROOM in 1969, a "must stop" for Black artists and music label execs visiting Chicago. Through the film, we learn of George's importance to the music business, his accomplishments and the strides he made for Black music retailers through his appearances and through George's Music Room. George is also known for his flashy style and expert Chicago stepping. Known across the country and world and loved by all, George organized Black music retailers into a coalition called the National United Independent Retailers to fight for inclusion in Record Retail, earning him the moniker of "the renegade of retail". This documentary not only details George's accomplishments, but enlightens us on George the man, the challenges he faced navigating life. Though George's Music Room closed in 2017, many execs, artists and radio stations still depend on George's instincts and insights to judge what songs and artists could be a hit. Thus, his influence and connections continue to this today.
