María and Pancho are a happily married couple in a quiet, working-class suburb south of Buenos Aires, circa 1978. They share the grief over the disappearance of their eldest son Carlos.

Flo, a young woman from the province, moves to Berlin to become a photo model.

Delegates and workmen from China appear in a small Bavarian village to dismantle and ship to their country parts of a shut-down industrial plant. Four Bavarian labourers are supposed to assist them in their efforts, and in spite of cultural differences and language barriers this rather unusual encounter of two cultures seems to go pretty well.

Destination Moscow gives an insight into what remains visible of the effects of the Second World War after fifty years. In the film a journey is made from the Netherlands (Valkenburg) to Moscow.
