Tatyana is a forty-five year old teacher from Moscow who borrows a large sum of money to pay for her sick mother's operation. Sadly her mother dies, and Tatyana soon finds herself plunged into debt. Why is it that once dreams of material wealth have been realised, happy family life disintegrates? In order to improve his shaky financial situation, the son decides to sell the mansion and his father's entire collection of paintings, but it turns out that they are forgeries. Soon afterwards the family starts receiving letters with threats and demands to sell the house. Where are the original paintings? What if there is a hiding place somewhere in the mansion? A frantic and desperate search begins, triggering serious tensions in the family, as greed and self-interest lead to betrayal and eventually bloodshed. Money becomes the measure of the characters' true values, as they face the choice between family relations and duty, obligations and decency. However, the real winners are those who believe in the power of love.
