The man, under presence of going a journey, took lodgings in the next street to his own house, and there, unheard of by his wife or friends, and without the shadow of a reason for such self-banishment, dwelt upwards of twenty years.

At the House of Artists at Gugging Psychiatric Hospital, near Vienna, Austria, fourteen painters live and work. The writing, often at the center of their works, inspires this film that reflects their unique and moving relationship to madness, art and Austria, marked by memory and built in isolation.

A man finds at the flea market an old photo album. Looking at the images, he begins to invent a narrative that combines descriptions, fantasies and personal memories. Gently, he slips into the place of the photographer and tells his story, that of a forgotten love.
