- 'America is a good place for stories,' Laurie Anderson told London's The Guardian right before she brought 'Homeland,' her self described 'concert poem,' to English stages. 'Homeland' contains some of Anderson's most incisive work, -- darkly humorous, starkly emotional, and, at times, movingly tender. Her stories are once again about these United States of America, the sprawling subject that first brought her acclaim more than 25 years ago with her eight-hour Reagan era phantasmagoria, 'United States, Parts I - IV.''Homeland' is a distilled, up-to-the-minute portrait of our agitated nation, its politics, its economics, its delusions and its dreams. Her tone is less outraged than elegiac, mourning for lives lost, ideals misplaced. The music is dramatically stripped down to a handful of players, centered around Anderson's haunting violin and voice, frequent Bill Frisell band-mate Eyvind Kang's viola and Peter Scherer's keyboards. The arrangements are embellished with such touches as the siren-like vocals of Antony Hegarty (of Antony and the Johnsons), thumping keyboards from Keiran Hebden (of Four Tet), and, on the brilliant, wickedly funny 'Only An Expert,' a gnarly guitar turn from Anderson's husband and co-producer Lou Reed.
- Blurring the traditional boundaries between documentary and dramatic fiction, HOME MOVIE reveals an intimate and somber portrait of a woman at home with her two small children as they cope with the unexplained absence of their father. Winner of the Ann Arbor Film Festival Best Narrative Award. HOME MOVIE is part of Mike Plante's Lunchfilm series of commissioned shorts (made for the cost of a lunch between Plante and filmmaker Braden King).
- In 1899, Edward H. Harriman, the head of the Union Pacific Railroad, organized a sea expedition along the coast of Alaska to study the flora, fauna, and natural wonders of the area. Harriman also intended to bring back specimens of the animals and plants he encountered. The group chosen for the voyage included scientists, artists, and writers. In 2001, Tom Litwin, of the Clark Science Center at Smith College, lead a similar expedition, retracing as closely as possible the route followed by the Harriman party. Along the way, we see many of the same peoples and places as those on the first expedition. We also see the changes that Alaska has endured in the previous 100 years.

As people crossing borders are more to more and greater scrutiny, NATIONAL DISINTEGRATIONS examines what it means to have untold amounts of wealth and property flow freely through this extralegal space.
- Looking For a Thrill: An Anthology of Inspiration is a collection of personal stories about defining moments of musical inspiration (a record, a show, a musician, etc.) for 112 musicians who themselves have inspired so many. The interviews on the DVD include recollections by Mike Watt, Thurston Moore, Hamid Drake, Bjork, Yo La Tengo, Tortoise, the Butchies, Jon Spencer, Vic Chesnutt, Kurt Wagner, Fred Anderson and Giant Sand - as well as members of the Urinals, Califone, Jesus Lizard, the Boredoms, Mekons, Slint, the Sea and Cake, and Calexico (to name just a few). Over five hours of inspiration in total! Although all were asked one simple question - to tell a story about a musical moment that inspired - the responses are as varied as the people interviewed. The film is a great resource for all those interested in the independent musical mind. As a collection, it reveals much about the moments that inspire so many to pick up a guitar or a microphone, to start a label or a band.
