In the 1930s, in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil, a young woman promised to marry a colonel's son decides to run away with the man she loves.

Historian wants to find Aleijadinho's daughter-in-law, who was still alive. In flashback, the life of this extraordinary Brazilian artist is told, from his birth until his death, in 1814.

Cowboy Riobaldo is attracted to same sex Diadorim, not knowing that "he" is a girl dressed in man's clothes. After Diadorim's father is killed, she swears revenge, being joined by Riobaldo in this mission.

Eugênio falls in love for Margarida, a poor girl who lives in his parents' farm. In order to avoid their love affair, the parents send him to a Catholic Seminary to be a priest. Just before his ordination, he meets Margarida again, and their old feelings for each other are triggered once more.

Based on the homonymous novel by Maria Alice Barroso. Roberto, Pierre and Pedro are very different men, with very different life paths; but one thing unites them: the three are suspected of having murdered Colonel Pacífico, the rich and powerful owner of the city of Parada de Deus, in the interior of the state of Minas Gerais. However, jail may be the least of his problems, as the colonel's brother is a bloodthirsty gunslinger looking for revenge.
