John Harland is a former boxer turned reverend posted to the town of Kangaroo. He falls in love with Muriel, an orphaned heiress, and discovers that her guardian Martin Giles is embezzling her inheritance. Harland earns the ire of parishioners by teaching young boys to box, and Giles manipulates local opinion to have the bishop remove him. Harland rescues a gentleman from a mugging in Sydney who suggests that he go to Kalmaroo where a criminal gang has driven the church out of the area. Harland preaches, and unexpectedly sees Muriel in the congregation; her property is near Kalmaroo. But her overseer is Red Jack Braggan who leads the gang which violently breaks up Harland's mission - much to the distress of Muriel who regards Harland as too timid - and is in cahoots with Giles. Harland goes to work as a station hand at a property neighbouring Muriel's. Giles arranges for Red Jack to kidnap Muriel so that he might marry the girl and thus prevent her giving evidence against him. Harland rescues Muriel: they leap from the stage coach as it thunders across Hampden Bridge into the Kangaroo River.

After his uncle dies, founder of the fishing village of Sandy Bay, Kenwood Wright is cut off with only some marshland while his nephew, Bruce Wilton, inherits the bulk of the estate. Wright is further enraged by the engagement of Vera Mather, whom he loves, to Bruce. Wright joins forces with Donald MacTavish, a pirate captain, and wins the affections of Bruce's sister, Alice, who becomes his victim. Trying to save Alice, Vera becomes involved in the scandal, and Bruce takes back the rosary he gave her to pledge his love. Bruce barely escapes an explosion at the cannery constructed by Wright on his marshlands, and when Father Kelly names Wright as a conspirator, the posse sets out to capture him in a storm. He seeks refuge in the church, and when a pistol is drawn against Father Kelly, Bruce's mother receives the fatal bullet; Wright escapes and falls to his death while crossing an old bridge.

A crook returns home to find his mother dead and about to be buried in Potters Field. This prompts him to go out upon a "job" so that he may secure money to give his mother a funeral. In the meantime the policeman's wife has left their baby in a department store and the child was handed over to the cop at the closing hour. The policeman did not recognize his own baby, and while on the way to the station, he ran into the robbery. The crook, however, jumped into the policeman's taxi and found the baby on the seat. A chase takes place that ends in a smash-up. The crook saves the baby from the flames of the burning car, and only later does the policeman discover that it was his own child.

Sergeant Blake is detailed to break up a band smuggling Chinamen across the border.

A mother is waiting for her boy, not knowing that he is dead. An escaped convict falls exhausted at her door and she gives him food and drink while the story is told, in a flash-back, of how he committed the crime. An unfaithful wife, a bar room, a dude and self defense; these were the elements that made him a convict. The mother learns that it was her boy that he killed. Although the mother helps him to escape he is captured by the prison officials.

Vowing vengeance on Edward Marriott, whom he believes to have dishonored his mother, The Shadow is a highwayman who robs only Marriott. The Shadow attracts the interest of Dorothy Harden, Marriott's fiancee, and finally he captures her. The action includes the kidnapping, by The Shadow's rival, Ben, of Dorothy; The Shadow's capture and escape; and his rescue of Dorothy. All is happily resolved when Dorothy declares her love for The Shadow and Marriott proves to be innocent of injuring The Shadow's mother.

A thousand dollar prize is offered to the winner of a dog race, and Jan Ducet would have used the money to doctor up his little child's bad leg if he had won. But he lost; and the winner, Otto Franke, runs away with Jan's wife. A priest takes care of the little girl while Jan gives chase and finds the regretful woman in the snow. A fight follows and Jan hurls Otto from a high cliff and returns home with his wife.

Brian, of the Fighting O'Farrells, has as a neighbor at his country estate, John MacDonald, who is averse to fighting. MacDonald's daughter, Enid, is interested in settlement work in the city. Through the instrumentality of a badger game, Brian is lured to a dive on the waterfront. In an upper room of the same place, Enid MacDonald has also been imprisoned, as she has information of the crook's activities. Brian discovers her and, after considerable excitement, including a high dive into the water, effects her rescue. All ends happily.
