- In 1984 a family throws a 14th-birthday party. 30 years later, they re-unite at two isolated houses in a forest, where horrific truths are uncovered about the family's occult pact with an ancient evil that's enabled their wealth and power.
- In "Doctor Theatre", actor Mark is seduced into joining a theatre company named Communion, only to find that it also secretly operates as a death-cult: during auditions and rehearsals for its productions, selected actors are sacrificed and then reborn into a bloodthirsty new family. By the end of season 1, horrified by the dark destiny he's fallen into but addicted to the growth of his own power, Mark has risen to become the new Director of Communion. In season 2, he tries to escape and to hide himself away from it. However, an established priest-like member of the company named Michael tracks Mark down and entices him back, to spearhead the sinister cult's transition from theatre to cinema. Mark then tries to change Communion's murderous ways from within -- but discovers its ancient powers are not so easily controlled.
- A theatre casting sets the scene for an audition with mysterious and ultimately horrific consequences, merging fiction and reality with satirical undertones.
- Inheriting a half-derelict suburban house, actor Mark enters it, to find he's been followed by Michael - a surreal figure who seeps into his dreams. Through dark provocations, Michael makes Mark question his own reality beyond the stage.

- Communion's offices are those of a fledgling film company, buzzing under Mark's direction. Yet its management still includes Michael, behind whose twinkly exterior there still lurks as much sinister power as when Mark was brought on board.
- Michael lets their colleague Marlene into the bloodthirsty reality of the company she works for, enticing her with the prospect of re-birthing herself as a kind of queen; while Mark forms his own alliance with lead actress Lisa.
- The new hunger of Marlene's blood-lust is as unsatisfied as Michael's is, by Mark's sending them bloodthirsty videos starring Lisa, which are surely designed to taunt them with the lack of any real meat being harvested for them.
- To spare Lisa the destiny that awaits her in the company, Mark demonstrates his power to slow her heart down and tries to free her by sacking her. But is it too late for her to escape the murderous net that Michael is tightening round her?
