Confused hulking homeless superhero The Maxx tries to protect his social worker and friend Julie from an omniscient serial killer Mr. Gone both in the real world, which may or may not actually be real, and the subconscious fantasy world.

Set in the south of France, Riki Kandinski and his elder brother Fredrico, come back to their family castle for their father's funeral. They haven't seen each other in a long time and Fredrico knows nothing about his younger brother, but he notices that he is making big money and living in luxury all for a few days work a week. By pure chance, Fredrico gets his hands on a gay porn magazine and sees his brother in it. According to Riki, he's had more than six hundred men and only four women. The brothers who grew up apart will have to get to know another again but both their lives change drastically when they witness a woman's death in a car crash.

Maxx finally gives in and takes Julie to the Outback. Mr. Gone attempts to erase Julie's memories for his own safety.

After Maxx tells Sara and some neighborhood kids an Outback story, Julie discovers Mr. Gone's rotting head in her apartment.

Mr. Gone reveals more of Julie's backstory. Julie must make a difficult decision that The Maxx doesn't want to accept.

Mr. Gone gets the upper hand against Maxx and Julie. But for how long?

Meet Sarah and her mother, clients of Julie's who are mysteriously linked to her past. Eventually Sarah confesses to Julie that she's carrying her father's gun, following humiliation at her school dance.

Maxx falls asleep on Julie's couch, dreaming that he's in his favorite cartoon. While asleep, he struggles with the truth of his identity.
