One day Jacob's best friend, Søren, moves in with him, due to Søren's relationship being 'on stand-by', and this is a turning point in Jacob's life. Time goes by with the boys giving each other a hard time, and soon Søren is moving out again. Once again, Jacob is on his own, alone in the flat. But this time he's ready to open up to his art and to love.

'PROTO' is a sci-fi action adventure, about a child-like, experimental robot, set in the robotics lab where he has been built. Although PROTO has been made to fulfill the ambitions of his creator, Prof. Andrews, he learns to find his own dreams and ambitions, and also the strength needed to realise them. The main theme of the film is freedom, both literal and in the ability to choose one's own destiny - to break free of expectations. We wish for the film, while an exciting and fun science fiction, to also capture a magical sense of wonder. PROTO will overcome the expectations and restrictions placed on him and discovering his true self.

The story is about Flame, a little flame that lives in Fire land. He works hard in the noisy mines but he does not like it there. He would rather lie on his back, looking up in the sky daydreaming - which makes him an outsider. One day he sees a strange white creature behind a rock. It looks like a living cloud in the shape of a girl. This turns his world upside down. But the cloud-girl disappears. Looking for her drives him out of Fire land. As he finally finds the girl she proves to be made of cotton. The situation becomes critical as Flame falls in love with her, because how can you be with someone who is so easily burnt?
