Really well-made for a staff with "limited" budget

Greenland does not a much history when it comes to making movies, but when they do, they do it well, even with what most people would call "low budget". The mood gets funny when it is suppose to and scary when it should as well. Malik Kleist seems to mainly do Horror, and that not necessarily a bad thing, as it seems like he is improving one area of expertise because of that.

But one thing to mention though: This movie is mostly aimed at Greenlandic audience, as most jokes in the movie are language-dependent so the humour won't get translated well into any other language.

After having watched movies from other countries, mostly France, Denmark and USA, I see Greenlandic movies has the opportunity to get some fan-base outside of it, thanks to Malik showing us that it is possible to make good movies in a country with only 60000 people, and I thank him for that.

But take my review with a grain of salt, as I may have some bias towards anything made from my country.

    No sophomore slump detected

This is the second horror movie made by Malik Kleist. Since I love the first one I decided to check this one out as well and I can't put into words how happy I am that I did.

To get out of the way immediately Basically the only area where this does not match or even succeed that one in quality is that it is weaker when it comes to themes. The ones there are, are great. It's more that they're pretty underdeveloped especially compared to that one.

This is different from that one in almost every single conceivable way. Where that one derives a lot of terror from the imposing albeit beautiful nature and We are only ever in one place this one starts by going to several different ones and then settling in to a specific one And it's inside.

Photography continues to be a strong suit. Where in that one it focused on the vastness of these amazing vistas here we do get a outside stuff Where the characters don't necessarily take up very much of the frame and once they're inside the specific place we get some cramped and claustrophobic close ups that under line that they are trapped inside.

Where that one was a slasher, this is a haunted house. This also means that his enthusiasm for coming up with and including multiple different things for the evil to do is better suited. One of the only things they do have in common is the impeccable score being ominous from right away.

And of course both of them are very clearly Greenlandic. They use some specific aspects of their mythology as well as it being Very clear that it was filmed there. The humor is quite apparent and really works to alleviate some of the tension. It as well as the suspense are incredibly thick and you'll be on the edge of your seat the whole time.

He also continues to be very clever with the budget. It's the kind of thing where if you're very careful with how you spend your money you can end up with El Mariachi as I would argue is the case here whereas if you are not good at making it work with what you have You're looking at a The Room or Birdemic.

It's been demonstrated before that these are two subgenres that you can really make work without having a lot. A stalking killer or a poltergeist can be done without having the kind of cash that Hollywood does.

The effects are practical whenever possible with some incredibly effective application of very simple inexpensive ones. There is some CGI and in part because it's the kind of stuff you can make work without breaking the bank and also because there is as little of it as there is all of it is fantastic.

Sound design is one of the best ways to get under an audience's skin and this is again a trait shared by both of these movies. There's one specific sound that reappears and it's unbelievably disturbing. This does feature some actual violence as well.

If you buy or rent this online there are subtitles in English for those of us who do not speak their language. Because my father has explained it to me I was fortunate enough to already know the particular source of danger derived from their beliefs. For the sake of anyone not in a similar situation I do think it would have been great if they had spent just a few more words explaining it because it truly is deeply fascinating. 8/10.
