Started off Well, BUT GOT RIDICULOUS

What makes movies for me are good lines and acting, of course. In the beginning part of the film, quite good lines and a good rapport between the Main couple Ethan and Nora. Baddie Jason Bateman's character was well played too. It was also quite eye-opening to see the inner workings of LAX terminal and the baggage areas.

The setting is perfect - LAX on Christmas Eve sprinkled with shades of Die Hard and Bruce Willis!

But then some very implausible things happen which means basically a lot of lazy script writing.

NOTE FOR FUTURE: When you have a gun on a mass terrorist, please shoot him the legs at least and not give them control!

90s action thriller...?!

Could we be slowly getting back to the good ol days of mid-90s action thriller's...? I really think we are getting close, it's just the quality isnt quite there just yet. To sustain the level of tension and suspenseful moments throughout takes time, patience and a really tightly paced script. This one has its moments...

As a Netflix produced Christmas time thriller, it was OK... Coming in at 2hrs it maybe overstays it welcome just a tad, however the simple plot, good actors, and one central location for the most part gives it some good points. This was actually a really good late adternoon viewing and you don't need to know anything plot wise going in, or even have seen the trailer or thumbnail on your Netflix homepage. Best to just hit play and let the story unfold as you get into the characters, and their motivations.

I don't think anything could ever top the original speed from 1994, however these types of genre films are very important to any movie fan, especially those who lived through the 90s...

Give this one a go...

it sucked...but i liked it?

Let's be real...does anyone expect a Netflix original to be anything special these days? Not every movie has to stun with its plot and characters, and Carry-On certainly doesn't do that. The crime in this movie is completely and totally unrealistic, but who really cares? I never got the impression that this movie took itself very seriously, especially when you consider Jason Bateman is playing a villain. I generally enjoy action packed thrillers, and the fight/conflict scenes in this movie deserve some more recognition. The fighting choreography was interesting 9especially since this takes place in an airport) and the main characters aren't making stupid decision after stupid decision. Was this a great movie? Absolutely not. But OK movies exist and can still be fun if you're looking for something new to watch.

I enjoyed it

It wasn't the absolute best movie I've ever seen, but it had some really good moments and solid acting. I enjoyed the movie and it left me wanting more.

I've seen comparisons to Diehard, and while this is no die hard, it is certainly a watchable movie.

The main character is likable and you get drawn into his story. While it is not a complex movie and is easy to follow, sometimes you just want escapism. I would like to see a follow up with the same main characters.

I think seeing the main character carrying out his duties as a police officer with the young family would make a really good movie.

90s Action Thriller are back !

If you're seeking a film that delivers pure action and thrills without overemphasis on realism, this movie is a perfect choice. It harkens back to the 90s era of action thrillers, where audiences could immerse themselves in the excitement without scrutinizing every detail's plausibility. The film boasts a compelling lead actor, complemented by a strong performance from the female police officer, creating a dynamic duo that enhances the narrative. Notably, it relies on practical effects over CGI, offering authentic action sequences that are both engaging and refreshing. In summary, it's an entertaining action flick that allows viewers to relax and enjoy the ride.

As if AI had written the script

As formulaic a film as you will find. That doesn't mean it's bad. It just means that while this is competently made, it doesn't exhibit an original thought at any point. It's sort of a Die Hard with somewhat of a wimp as the hero. I can't say I've been a big fan of Taron Egerton, our hero here, but his career did seem to take a new and startlingly terrific new direction with Rocketman and the fine mini-series Black Bird, but now there is this?! He does okay here, but it's not the best career move I can think of. Our hero's villain is played by the usually well liked Jason Bateman, but he doesn't fit this role to me and Sofia Carson, speaking of AI, does indeed look like something created by a computer. Danielle Deadwyler does what she's supposed to do well enough, but this is just a paycheck role for someone this talented. Theo Rossi is on the villain's team and stuck in a van wasted for most of the pic, but when he is finally let loose, he is gleefully evil and the most enjoyable of all to watch. The film is as far-fetched as Die Hard, just much lesser thrills, humor and excitement. It does contain some suspense and it is quite watchable and also reminiscent of Die Hard, it all takes place at Christmas!

Frustrating

This movie has a great premise, great actors, great characters. Unfortunately, the longer the movie goes on, the more frustrating it gets. The characters continue to make decisions that make ZERO sense. The plot also falls apart quickly everything is so quickly able to be solved if the characters used any common sense.

I figured it would be an mindless action thriller. It is an action thriller, but it's hard to be mindless with how obvious the characters are making bad decision after bad decision. Too many to be even remotely believable.

Again, all the actors did a great job with their characters, there are just so many obvious flaws in the story and plot that the movie became frustrating as it end on.

Suspend belief and it's not bad!

Okay, so it kept me entertained enough to watch it until the end, however, the ending was very predictable and no twist/shock to make it more interesting. Also, there are some moments where you need to suspend belief as otherwise, you'll be rolling your eyes.

Not sure about the casting for the 'bad guy'- having watched Jason Bateman in other roles, it just didn't sit right with me and the sniper, well, preposterous!

The film is a cross between Die Hard and Phone Booth but doesn't quite pull it off, although, if you haven't nothing else to watch, it's not a bad choice to while away a few hours.

A worse version of Die Hard 2

Well done and well acted. Mostly enjoyable- but the main character and his girlfriend were just flat, especially the GF, the main character did his job well but brought nothing more. The detective started off real likeable, realistic, clumsy but smart, then suddenly, halfway through the movie, enters Girl Boss - all others will fail with my plot armour!!! And she has a ludicrous, horribly executed CGI fight that was unnecessary.

Jason Bateman did a great job as a villain- but Hans didn't have McClain to dance with. Needed more wit and sharper dialogue between good guy and bad guy, huge missed opportunity.

It's sad that the only "original" Hollywood movies we get now are obvious rip offs of previous hits: still it could have been better if the lead had a little more fun and joy with His character.

Overall, if you don't mind a B action movie and are in the mood for something new, and ever felt empathy for the TSA, have a ball!

Even Jason Bateman couldn't save this movie

I really wanted to enjoy this film as I'm a huge fan of Taron. His acting in all films up to this one has been soooo good, however I felt he was over acting in this, awkward facial expressions and awful running. Those arms! It was just to over the top for me. He didn't come over as at all natural. Jason Bateman was OK but there wasn't a great deal of emotional attachment to any of the characters. I almost stopped after 30 minutes as it was so slow. It picked up but the story line was just a bit weak for me. The scene on the highway in the car with the cop and the guy from Homeland Security was really weird to watch. I'm not sure what effects they used but it felt almost like a cartoon. Overall a bit of an uncomfortable watch.

Nothing Special

Mediocre for the most part, Carry On's best action sequence is not in the airport but on the highway. Danielle Deadwyler walks away with this ludicrous, eye-rolling nonsense. Her Elena Cole roused me from near slumber every time she was on screen. Egerton is a bit better than serviceable, while Sofia Carson brings a bland, forgettable void to her role as the wife in peril who does not know she is in peril. Jason Bateman is always good but cannot lift the proceedings out of its morass of mediocrity. Always ready to suspend disbelief with a film like this, but only to a degree. The number of groans and laugh-out-loud scenes add up to too long a list to bother with. A better script with Bateman in the director's chair would have made for a far more interesting film. Not recommended.

Doesn't deserve the low ratings

Gave this 8/10. Found the storyline quite interesting because some plot twists were quite unexpected, and I found the ending absolutely satisfying. I don't ask much of action films these days, practically every formula has been used, but this film doesn't insult your intelligence to create intrigue. And, I really wanted to see Bateman play against type. As a driven and highly motivated psycho, he does not disappoint. The entire cast in fact was quite watchable, there was no wastage of acting talent. An enjoyable and interesting film that holds your attention throughout. I suggest you watch it for yourself and ignore the critics who are content to rip apart films they stop watching after a few minutes.

Die Hard ... Squared?

It's a bit like Die Hard 2, Part 2. At a busy airport on Christmas Eve some highly-skilled malefactors run circles around incompetent security in the interests of doing very bad stuff. Only one man can stop them, and he won't quit despite the risk to his domestic partner. This is has a lot less action and more of a thriller vibe than DH2; and the antagonists' master plan is even more silly and convoluted than the one in DH2. Nevertheless this movie is a lot of fun thanks to good performances from Taron Edgerton and Jason Bateman, some moderate twists and enough wry humor to keep things from dragging too much in a slow second act. Overall an enjoyable albeit disposable adult Christmas popcorn movie.

American take on British Classic

Straight away the Americans don't understand British humour You don't mess with a classic Didn't find any of the film remotely funny For a start there was no Sid James Kenneth Williams or Barbara Windsor and I didn't here any innuendos at all To be honest it's probably the worst out of all the Carry On films made If they would have promoted it as a action thriller I think it would have had more success Overall though I quite liked it but please Americans leave the comedy to people with a sense of humour like the British They probably could have saved it if they would have had Barbara Windsors Bra flying off at the end and someone saying" matron" occasionally.

Another case of lazy writing

This movie is clearly riding the tail coats of the Die Hard franchise. Unfortunately, it is hampered by very lazy, unimaginative and unrealistic writing. The characters are taking one stupid decision after another to keep the plot going. The main character undergoes a transformation in two hours that is beyond believable, and doesn't make any sense. Jason Bateman as usual is doing a very decent job, but unfortunately that cannot save the movie. Overall, quite the disappointment.

This is becoming quite a common problem with Netflix movies: big budgets, some very decent actors, mediocre CGI, and absolutely terrible writing.

meh

This has more plot holes than it should but I don't mind a vapid action flick. Just enjoy the ride like on a water slide.

What I do mind is bad casting. The villain was perfection! The various lesser pawns were great, the coworkers and bosses were great... but the main character and his GF were dreadful. Egerton was offputting. I haven't seen him in anything else so I'm not sure if it's him, or some choices he made with this character, but he made my skin crawl and it was hard to wish him well. As for the GF she seems to simply be a lousy actor. Major soap opera energy. She ruined every scene she was in.

With half Hollywood's output these days being reboots, remakes and sequels, I would wish that this would get remade in a few years with a better lead and love interest BUT Bateman was so delicious in his role it would be a crime to replace him!

Gotta add, the settings were great fun! The back rooms where luggage gets processed were something I'd never thought about before and it was interesting to get a glimpse of how it's done, all the conveyor belts and scanners. And there were a lot of drone shots of the airport surrounded by more freeways than are in my whole city. I joked that these shots scared me more than the Suitcase did LOL! Imagine driving through that mess, finding offramps and onramps and missing one and having to find a way back... and then once you escape the site... no respite, it's just more of the same like some nightmare. But I digress.

The setting is not just engaging it plays some important roles in the plot too which was cool. The protagonist's knowledge of his worksite and its protocols serve him well, which I guess has a nice message about how what he saw as a pointless dead end job did actually have value. "No matter what you end up doing keep your head in the game" kind of thing.
