Wicked: One Wonderful Night

Wicked: One Wonderful Night, a Concert film, highlights the music, choreography, story, and behind-the-scenes stories of Wicked (2024).

The Concert did a wonderful job of recreating the "magical" moments of Wicked, from music to choreography. As a big fan, I truly enjoyed hearing the music recreation, the stories of "behind the scenes", and the performances. The film also featured a couple of songs from the upcoming sequel. And as a bonus, we also got a glimpse, a sneak peek, of Wicked: For Good.

The film features outstanding performances, both vocal and/or instrumental, from: Ariana Grande-Butera (Glinda), Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba), Jeff Goldblum (the Wizard), Michelle Yeoh (Madam Morrible), Bowen Yang (Pfannee) - who was an unexpected surprise -, Ethan Slater (Boq), and Marissa Bode (Nessarose). Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero) and director Jon M. Chu both make brief appearances.

The production quality deserves its own spotlight-from the stunning cinematography and thoughtful set design to the energy of the live musicians and choreography. Every detail lifted the entire experience and made it magical.

The film also features a few notable cameo appearances that were a fun surprise for longtime fans of Wicked, especially those familiar with the Broadway play.

Overall, Wicked: One Wonderful Night captures the charm, the heart, and the magic of the film it's based on. Definitely worth a watch for fans and all alike!

This is a TV special on NBC and other places. The central show is a concert at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. There are interviews and group chats. This is Wicked Con. This is the definition of for the fans. It is like a Con and a bit more. There is an actual concert and performances. Fans are going to love this and non-fans are not going to watch it.

An incredibly spectacular, grandiose show with wonderful performances - both lead actresses sang at studio quality, just as we've come to expect from them.

The only thing I didn't like was that the audience's reactions were also scripted, and a few shots showing them featured extras who were overacting their roles, which took away from the authenticity of the show rather than adding to it - but that's just a minor flaw.

Another interesting innovation - at least I haven't seen it elsewhere - was that the LED wristbands worn by the audience flashed in timed sequences and different colors, creating the effect of fans waving their phone lights at a big concert (although since the lighting was automated here, it looked a bit artificial, but still very impressive).

Overall, the title of the show doesn't lie - it truly was a wonderful night.

Every single person involved is at the top of their game!!!! Music, performance, choreography, costumes, lighting, staging, cinematography, editing, staging, dancers, LIVE ORCHESTRA, and THE SINGING O. M. G!!!!! Cynthia and Ariana are SENSATIONAL!!!!!...EVERYONE.... The whole production is so IMPRESSIVE. What a joy. What a privilege. NO NOTES! INSTANT CLASSIC! GO WATCH IT !!!!! 10/10.

Holding my breath, ugly cring...nope, not me... Like WICKED, and soon, WICKED FOR GOOD, I'll be watching over and over again!

I'm hoping Jon Chu decides to do a 3rd w/ Steven Schwartz writing the music.
