Biography

Derek is a New York City-based American actor who has experience as a stage combat instructor and choreographer founded in over 16 years of martial arts training in various disciplines.

He graduated from the UCLA's Acting program - TFT and has had extensive experience in onstage performance including a run of Lynn Nottage's Pulitzer winning play 'SWEAT' at the Denver Center for Performing Arts as well as Andy Warhol in the world Premiere of 'Andy Warhol's Tomato' by Vince Melocchi at LA's Pacific Resident Theater and as Liberty Valance in the the New York City premiere of the stage adaptation of 'The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'.

Notably, Derek Chariton was seen on screen as Billy the Kid in AMC's 'The American West'.

Derek was also the lead singer for Epic Floyd, a Pink Floyd cover band, and enjoys singing and playing guitar.

Derek Chariton is an American born actor from Palm Springs, CA who began stage acting at the age of 7. Other than the years of the Pandemic he's acted onstage every year since and hit the screen a few times as well. Most notably in his portrayal of Billy the Kid for AMC's "The American West" in which he developed a less cinematic and more researched and reality driven version of the historical figure for the network's documentary style series. With over 18 years of martial arts experience, Derek is Shotokan black belt with a myriad of weapons expertise. In 2022 Derek relocated from Los Angeles to New York to more ardently pursue his love of classical theater in tandem with his TV/Film career.
