Origin and history of vicuna
vicuna(n.)
Peruvian ruminant related to the llama and alpaca, c. 1600, from Spanish vicuña, from Quechua (Inca) wikuna, the native name of the animal. Another 17c. form of the name was vigogne, vicogne, from the French form.
