Origin and history of thirsty
thirsty(adj.)
"parched, dehydrated, suffering from want of drink," Middle English thirsti, from Old English þurstig "thirsty, greedy, vehemently desirous;" see thirst (n.) + -y (2). Related: Thirstily; thirstiness. Other words in the same sense included thirstful (late 15c.), thirsting (late 14c.), Similar formation in Old Frisian, Dutch dorstig, German durstig.
