#Democrats

The Democratic Party is one of two major political parties in the US along with the Republican Party. The party’s liberal platform is largely considered center-left in the US political spectrum. The party has the lengthiest record of continuous operation in the country and had 72 million registered voters in 2004.
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) provides national leadership for the US Democratic Party. The DNC is responsible for developing and promoting the Democratic political platform as well as coordinating fundraising and election strategy.

  • A week ago, my article on DSA’s victories in New York went viral. I have an update.

A week ago, I wrote an article on the victories of the Democratic Socialists of America in New York State that went viral. You can read that article, “BREAKING: OVERWHELMING victory for New York democratic socialists; two Democratic Congressional incumbents toppled” by clicking the link. One of the DSA candidates in that election did not…

  • The White or Left

On a debate stage with then Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, her opponent, Donald Trump, accused the Haitian-American population in Springfield, Ohio, of eating pets, specifically dogs and cats.  The bemused look of incredulity on the former Vice President’s face was familiar to most blacks watching.  It cannot be possible that anyone would believe this,…

  • Republicans’ Message Is: You’re On Your Own. Democrats Should Answer: We Leave No One Behind.

The GOP’s message is brutal: you are on your own. Democrats cannot answer that with another stack of policy papers. They need moral compression – five words ordinary people can repeat: We Leave No One Behind.

  • Trump leaves US totally ISOLATED after Allies model genius strategy on China

Donald Trump’s “Liberation Day” declaration was a complete illusion, and the American people are finally waking up to the reality of a failed economic agenda. Remember April 2, 2025? That was the day Trump, riding the high of his election victory, arrogantly declared a new era of American dominance like a cinematic sequel nobody asked…

  • Democrats: We Aren’t as Divided as We Think

Lots of thought, and then I went, you know? I’m just going to brain vomit, and touch on those historical things. I started researching the Electoral College. Somewhere along the way I realized this isn’t really an EC article. It’s about Democrats trying to harpoon Moby Dick while ignoring an entire school of fish swimming…

  • Republicans keep calling Democrats “socialists”: it’s a failing strategy

“I would make a proposition to my Republican friends… that if they will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them.” ― Adlai Stevenson “The Socialists are coming“ Republicans are facing a bleak legislative future. Polls consistently show that Trump’s MAGA policies, the ones rubber-stamped by an obeisant GOP legislature,…

  • Democrats propose bill capping out-of-pocket Medicare costs for enrollees

Sen. Ron Wyden and 14 Democratic co-sponsors introduced legislation Thursday to cap consumers’ potential out-of-pocket costs in traditional Medicare, resurfacing a long-running debate over why the program doesn’t limit beneficiary spending.

  • ‘So Stupid it Makes Your Head Explode’: ‘BradCast’ 6/25/2026 (With Digby and Driftglass!)

It was time for our monthly-ish check-in with two of our favorite old-school blogger pals before standing down next week from the BradCast before the holiday. How rude it was for SCOTUS to release a bunch of horrible, corrupt rulings to throw off our plans. Nonetheless, we persist on today’s program. [Audio to full show…

  • Update: SCOTUS Just Turned “No Guns Allowed” Into “Guns Allowed Unless You Object”

The Supreme Court just turned Hawaii’s “no guns unless the owner says yes” rule into “guns allowed unless the owner objects.” That is not local control. It is a national gun-carry default imposed from Washington. Wolford v. Lopez proves the point again: under Bruen, public-safety laws are dragged through an antique historical test while local…

  • Yes, there is plenty that Democrats can smash

I caused a great deal of commotion yesterday with the unfortunately titled piece, “Why Democrats need their own Trump.” Many people understandably never got past the headline. The point wasn’t that Democrats need a Trump-like figure. It was that Trump has exposed just how much power the presidency actually has once you stop treating norms…

The latest Donald Trump boondoggle at the Reflecting Pool—that some are now calling Lake Dementia—pales in comparison to a real water shortage being experienced by US citizens in Puerto Rico.  While many factors have contributed to the water shortage, most notably in San Juan, the current administration has said little to address the crisis affecting…

  • Democrats Expanding Downballot Races

For years, sometimes for decades, the Democratic party has focused its attention – and money – on national races: President, Senate, House, sometimes governors. What we call “downballot” races – for state legislatures, local councils, mayors, etc. – got less attention, sometimes even no attention, as the national committees looked at the numbers and decided…

  • GNR for Tuesday, June 23, 2026 — Remembering who we are at our best

Good morning and happy Tuesday, Gnusies! My virtual friend Noah Berlatsky discusses this in some detail but I was inspired to distill it down to this comic. I started thinking about a different metaphor, then I realized two things: One, comparing humans to vermin is already done by one side, and it’s bad; and two, the current regime has already handed us the perfect…

  • You Can’t Talk a Fascist Out of Fascism

Liberals keep bringing empathy to a power fight. You can lose with a clean conscience. That’s still losing. There is a belief so embedded in liberal and progressive culture that most people who hold it have never examined it. Political conflict is itself the failure. The goal is harmony. If we communicate better, understand each…
