I had questions from page one, and even now after finishing the books my mind keeps running through what happened. This was slower in pace but the book makes up for it with the intriguing characterisation of L. and the need to know what happens next. You are given enough throughout the book to keep your interest piqued, but not too much that you feel spoiled.

There was so much potential and room for epic and vivid worldbuilding, tense action scenes and wonderfully developed relationships, but ultimately I found it fell a little short. I just wanted to see more of what was shown to me. I'm very much looking forward to seeing what the sequel holds, though!...more

I did feel a little disappointed when some of the action was skipped over and happened behind the scenes. Felt a little cheated a couple of times when this happened, but overall I was really captivated.
I think that with listening to the audiobook I didn't pick up on as many grammatical errors than others did when reading the physical book. Obviously with listening I'm more likely to zone out a tiny bit or half-listen. Perhaps I also didn't pick up on it because the errors often sounded like it was part of the way people sometimes speak, so it didn't sound wrong when actually spoken aloud (like 'could of' sounding similar to 'could've'). The errors would make more sense if the book was in first-person, but this was written in third-person....more

This was definitely an interesting and unsettling book. I wouldn't say that a lot of what happened necessarily shocked me due to the characterisation of the main character. Since we are inside Norton's head, as a reader you are almost inclined to sympathise with him, but he is so unlikeable and I didn't agree with many of his actions. But his story was just so captivating and intriguing. ...more

A few chapters I stopped reading half-way through because I wasn't enjoying them as much.
