DELUXE EDITION―featuring a foiled case stamp, designed endpapers, and beautiful stenciled edges that, together with Firebird (and the final book in the trilogy next year), will form one stunning piece of art.
New York Times bestselling author Juliette Cross returns with a new scorching dark romantasy in her The Fire That Binds trilogy. The fate of a powerful witch who can control men with one taste of their blood and a fierce dragon collide.
A spellbinding gift... A plea answered by the gods... An unforgiving world where dragons rule Rome.
Lela Bihari’s village was invaded on her wedding night, her betrothed murdered right in front of her. While her sisters were either dragged away or escaped, Lela was sold to Valerius, a consul of Rome.
When she tried to kill Valerius her first night as his slave, her bloodsinger gift manifested… and she was punished for it. Now she’s paraded in front of the other senators for their amusement.
But Trajan Tiberius, the newly elected tribune to the senate, is different. He has no love for the brutality around him. When he frees Lela from enslavement and hides her, Lela is set on a path of vengeance, and using her gift puts her in more danger than ever before.
Now trapped inside the walls of Rome while deathriders circle the skies, how can she possibly trust a Roman dragon? Especially when it is clear Trajan has ulterior schemes of his own? As her powers grow stronger, danger draws closer, and Lela realizes it isn't just her life at stake, but also her heart.
Bloodsinger is an adult romantasy novel that contains dark themes, including slavery in Ancient Rome and self-injury, which may be uncomfortable for some readers.
JULIETTE is a multi-published author of paranormal and contemporary romance, including the best-selling STAY A SPELL series. As a native of Louisiana, she lives in the heart of Cajun country with her husband, four kids, and sundry animals. When she isn’t working on her next project, she enjoys binge-watching her favorite shows with her husband and a glass (or two) of red wine or whiskey.
I really enjoyed this book—Roman Empire with dragons. How could I not be intrigued?
This story has so many of my favorite tropes:
First-person, dual POV
Dragon shifters
Magic
Roman Empire–inspired world
Fated mates
Strong “touch her and die” energy
It was a great read overall. The only thing I didn’t completely love was that we didn’t get much page time with the characters from Book 1. That said, after reading other books by this author, that seems to be her style, so it didn’t ruin the experience for me.
I’m guessing the next book will focus on the third sister, and I’m really hoping we finally get answers about sister #4 as well. I’m also very eager to see who ends up freeing Caesar’s sister and what the fallout from that will be.
Definitely a fun, immersive read, and I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
Bloodsinger is a nonstop, high-energy read that refuses to slow down. Just when you think the story has reached its conclusion, it pushes forward again layering action and revelations in a way that keeps the momentum strong without feeling excessive. Cross seamlessly ties characters and events from Book One into Book Two, creating cohesion without overdoing the connections.
Lilla is a powerful and resilient main character, especially after enduring unimaginable trials. Her strength feels authentic and well-earned. Teagan is equally compelling, balancing dual roles with depth and integrity, a genuinely good man whose complexity adds emotional weight to the story.
The world-building expands even further in this installment, offering impressive depth and detail that enrich the overall series. Readers should be sure to check the trigger warnings, as the book explores darker themes and includes some coarse language.
By the end, Bloodsinger leaves you wondering about the other sisters…their paths, their futures, and how their stories will ultimately be brought together. It’s a gripping continuation that builds anticipation for what’s coming next
Firstly, a big thank you to Juliette Cross, NetGalley, and Macmillan Audio for the opportunity to do an advanced copy listen to Bloodsinger. Second, worth noting, I for some reason thought this book continued the story of Julian and Malina from Firebird. SURPRISE (in case you’re clueless like me) it is an interconnected standalone series. This book, in fact, follows Lela who was Malina’s sister who was getting married in book 2 when their family was attacked and who Malina thought was dead. Second SURPRISE, not dead, but another slave of the dragon nobility of Rome.
So, the audiobook narrators are the same from Firebird, so if you dug them in that narration you will be pleased. I am a big fan of continuity of narrators between books, so I was pleased. They did a nice job.
Stick with me here, I was actually a bit of a critic of book one (3 ⭐️ rating) and not for the reasons a lot of people took issue. I think that even though the slavery topic is one that should always be handled with care, I thought that it was not treated poorly. I did however think that it was VERY insta-love and that gives me a big ick.
This book on the other hand, I thought was much better than book one. It continues the plot of working to overthrown an authoritarian ruler, but better balances the plot and romance. It was more of a slow burn than book one and helped to build the relationship better. This still has a lot of slave/owner content, so if that is triggering for you, you may want to skip this particular read. I think it’s important to know though that at the heart of these stories is the injustice of slavery and dictatorial rule, so it in no way supports or condones slavery.
There was a fun sneak peak of book three at the end of this read and looking forward to the next installment.
Thank you Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for giving me and ARC of the audiobook of Bloodsinger.
Wow!! Perfect example of book 2 being better than book 1. The story picks up following the events of Firebird but with the focus on Lela and Trajan. This gives the feel more of an interconnected stand alone than the sequel of a book. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of presence of Julian and Malina, but Trajan does not disappoint. All the other key players from the first book are present as the story advances with the desire to overthrow Caesar. The characters and story felt better developed and thought out in this book. Bloodsinger a fun story that will have you hooked and unable to put it down. I devoured the audiobook in less than 24 hours. The narrators do a fantastic job - in dual narration.
I adore Trajan. He was a fun character in Firebird, but as an MMC he is adorable, kind and thoughtful.. a total cinnamon roll. He calls Lela "darling" and it gives off Kai Azur vibes and I am here for it. The dynamic between Trajan and Lela is different from Malina and Julian, though there are parallels, Malina and Lela have different backstories since their village was destroyed, though both find themselves as slaves to the Roman empire. The spice in this book is better placed than in Firebird, it feels more natural and a part of the story. This book felt less spicy than book 1, but it was better. The anticipation and build up for Lela to realize that Trajan knows her sister had me pulling my hair out! I love how everything comes together in the end and how Bloodsinger sets up the final book in a nice way that I am looking forward to what will happen to conclude the trilogy.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ALC of this book! I loved Firebird and was so thankful for the opportunity to listen to Bloodsinger before release date.
To start, I think I liked Firebird more than Bloodsinger, although this book was still good. Lela’s magic is so cool. She is definitely a resilient character, that’s for sure, to have endured through the murder of her fiancé on their wedding day, to then be enslaved for several years. This book navigates some dark themes as Lela self-harms, so check your trigger warnings before reading!
The world-building continues off of Firebird with the Roman politics and evil Caesar trying to take over Rome. Trajan is like a soft-boy-possessive-dragon and I was DEAD when he got on his knees and offered his blood to Lela as a show of trust.
I was so happy in the end when Lela found her sister. I wish we had more of Malina and Julian in this book, and I am excited for book 3 since book 2 set it up for the third sister’s story. I really think I’m going to like that story! Also I really hope someone sets Caesar’s white dragon sister free sometime soon since neither Malina or Lela could do it.
This audiobook was dual narrated, so each chapter is narrated by the character whose perspective it is from. Blair Dade did a good job but Kale Williams really carried the story with his different accents and voices, including the spicy scene in the bath between Lela and Trajan, omggg. So good.
I have my physical copy of this book already preordered, so I can’t wait to receive it and put it on my shelf next to Firebird. They are such beautiful books!

The story is a definitely a five-star rating. When it comes to the audio book, the only criticism I have is when there is a female and male duo narration, and they both voice the opposite sex when reading their own POV chapters. But honestly, I'm grasping at straws on this one, because the story was so good, I didn't really care. It was a little slow at first as there is a lot of lore, but it's woven into the story so well, that I found myself actually wanting to know the origin stories to a lot of the happenings and magic going on in this book. Also, it begins in such a dark place for our FMC. And the audio does such a good job at portraying the depressing atmosphere with her voice and pace of speaking. As it progressed, I recognized how the mood in her voice changed and picked up as the FMCs moved on to less darker places, physically and within her own mind. I admit, I thought I remembered enough from the first installment, but where this second installment begins, I found myself a little lost. However, Juliette did a good job at bringing up the most important elements of the first book that directly affected what was happening in this book, that I was not lost for long. The spice and romance were amazing. The FMC, and MMC had amazing chemistry, or maybe those were just the narrators, but what I loved most about this story was the political maneuvering and scheming. It was a little anxiety inducing but had me sitting at the edge of me seat in a good way. I also appreciate the way it didn't end on some diabolical cliffhanger. There was some resolution, and yet it was so good that it left me wanting more and has me anxiously awaiting the next book.
First of all, I want to say thank you to Macmillan Audio for the ARC and ability to hear one of my most anticipated reads of 2026 much sooner than I dared dreamed. This is my first time listening to an audiobook and I was very worried because I did not want to be biased on my review since I am not an avid audiobook listener. But because Bloodsinger is one of the few anticipated books on my list for the year, I could not pass this once in a lifetime opportunity. As we progress in the overall storyline, the sequel is much darker in my opinion than the first book and really progressed the plots development. There were so much pain, sorrow, forgiveness, and acceptance that came in Lela's story. Trajan really was there for her and helped her realized that she could be happy after everything that she has endured. When it came to the romance, the main and side character's development, it made me not only root for them but also, I felt true hate to the villainous characters in the story. I was immersed and devoured this book in two days!! How I mentioned before this was my first time listening to an audiobook. The experience was not what I was expecting, and I really am considering giving other books a try. Bloodsinger was such a positive experience, and the narrators did a well job. I truly believe that the author really does know how to empower her main female characters well and she does it right. I am so happy I got to read this before the release date but now (begrudgingly) must wait even longer for the third book. 2027 needs to come here fast!
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and Juliette Cross for the e-ALC in exchange for honest review.
FIVE STARS! OH MY GOSH, FIVE STARS!
I LOVED this one so much! I adored Firebird and was so excited to meet the new MCs in this book, I was honestly shocked by who the FMC was based on info from Firebird but it was such a good surprise!
Lela is such a badass FMC! She has been through it and come out even stronger and more powerful. And her abilities- so so cool!
Trajan, oh sweet Trajan. Okay, he's really only sweet to Lela, but gosh did I love their chemistry! Trajan would burn the world down for Lela and despite wanting to keep her safe, he trusts in her instincts and ideas (which let's be honest, wasn't typical in ancient Rome) and stands with her in battle.
The most interesting part to me was learning more about the dragons! I felt like there was so much more lore about the dragons and how they go about in half skin as well.
My favorite part was definitely the last few chapters! I loved getting to see our MCs from Firebird interact with Lela and and Trajan. And cannot wait to see how they all work together in book 3. (Speaking of book 3, the sneak at the end of this book has me so excited for it!!) Oh, and I am dying to see more of our favorite white dragon! I just know she's going to be a force to be reckoned with!
The narration was wonderfully done, just like Firebird. Sometimes I find fantasy books somewhat difficult to follow as audiobooks but both Firebird and Bloodsinger were so well done as audiobooks and I had zero difficulty understanding the world building or following the story.
Overall, an amazing 5 star read and thank you again for the e-ALC!!
This was my second 5-star read of 2026, with the first being Firebird, the first in the series. This was absolutely stunning!!
We follow two different characters in this book than in the first one, and without any spoilers, those two will remain unnamed LOL. The most impressive feat of this book was how we were following new people (one of which we knew in book one, but the other was new to us) but still kept to the same plot!! Like NOTHING deviated! It was sooooo impressive.
The other thing that stood out to me the most was how nothing was forgotten, each and every thing we were told was important either immediately or down the line. As soon as I started to question, "Well what about that?", it would come up like the next page! And the way it was brought back into the story was beyond perfect!
There are some heavy themes in this book (like of course, it is fantasy, there is usually war and people dying, but still) and I think they're handled beautifully. The dialogue between characters felt raw and real and sounded like conversations I have had in real life, which was so nice and refreshing to read.
Overall, this is absolutely one of my new favorite series, perfect for anybody who is looking for the next well-written romantasy series that will keep you on the edge of your seat, with characters that make you laugh and cry :)
The ending of Firebird made Bloodsinger an absolute NEED and oh my gosh, it delivers 🙌🏻 I am so grateful to have received an early review copy but now the wait for book 3 is going to be so painful.
Bloodsinger picks up right where Firebird ends which I always love in a sequel. We learn what happened to Lela all those years ago, and the difficulties she has faced since. She is a character I enjoyed reading about immensely- her strength, quiet confidence and absolute dedication to her vengeance regardless of the cost to her own well being make her a very powerful character. Trajan was a side character I loved meeting in book 1, and I enjoyed his character even more in this book as the MMC, and his character is the perfect complement to Lela. Their relationship is a slow burn trust build, and when they finally start getting close, it is 🔥
The plot line continues on from book one and I can’t say much without spoilers but the action definitely delivers here, and there is a certain character I cannot waitttt to read more of in book 3!
All the stars, easy! 2/5🌶️
Thank you so much Raincoast Books, Juliette and Bramble for the gifted arc!
Bloodsinger by Juliette Cross The Fire that Binds #2
AHHHHHHHHH! I loved Firebird so much so when I received the ARC of Bloodsinger I was shook and so excited!
Thank you so much to Bramble and the author for an arc of this book.
This is a continuation from Firebird but it is the POV of Lela, Malina’s sister. I loved her story so much. We get to see what she experienced and went through after their village was attacked. Her magical gift is so interesting and unique to me. I loved her growth in both her magic but also in her belief in herself. She had survived so much and not knowing what had happened to her sisters just makes my heart hurt.
Trajan who we met in book one really shines in this one. He is compassionate in a brutal world. Their relationship is a slow-burn but with high heat once the tension snaps!
Lela’s life is at stake and he risks everything and I just ah. Political intrigue, dragons, magical gifts, and finding those that are lost. I honestly loved the vibes in this one and just was hooked so early on.
Man, the wait for book three is going to feel so long!
A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing the ALC of this book! I have to start by saying the narrator for the audio version is absolutely phenomenal. They did an amazing job bringing Juliette Cross’s world to life, perfectly capturing the grit of the setting and the raw emotion of the characters.
Bloodsinger is a stunning follow-up to Firebird. While I loved the first book, Lela and Trajan’s story felt even more immersive and emotionally charged. One of the most moving aspects of this book was Lela’s internal struggle; she was so close to giving up after years of trauma and enslavement, but seeing the way the world and the people who truly care for her showed her and pushed her to rebel instead. It is honestly a beautiful journey of healing and taking her power back. She is such a resilient FMC, and I loved how she learned to embrace her dark "bloodsinger" magic rather than fearing it.
This installment is action-packed with excellent pacing that kept me turning the page. I really appreciated the use of multiple POVs, as it gave so much more depth to the political intrigue and the overarching mystery. It was also refreshing that the story wasn't solely focused on the romance; while the chemistry between Lela and Trajan is electric, the plot involving the rebellion felt equally important and high-stakes. It’s a darker, grittier side of Romantasy that handles heavy themes with a lot of heart. I am super interested to see where book three takes us!
Thank you, Goodreads, for the giveaway that made me read this book before the publishing date! It's always an honor to read an ARC, and reading one from an author I love is even more exciting.
I want to start by saying that I preferred Bloodsinger to Firebird, and I'm really starting to enjoy the plot that drives the whole series. It was great to catch glimpses of Malina and Julian, Stephanos, and all the other side characters from book one.
I love Lela and her blood magic. She's a powerful FMC and needs no man. 💪 I also love Trajan, who's a big, bad, possessive dragon with the softest heart.
The first 50% dragged me a little, but the other half was exactly what I needed: action and development!
I'm really excited for the next and final (I think?) book of this series.
Tropes to look for: 🩸 Blood magic 🩸 Fated mates 🩸 Revolution 🩸 Roman-inspired mythology 🩸 Romantasy
Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the ARC of the audiobook of Bloodsinger.
Wow—this is a perfect example of book two being better than book one. While it follows the events of Firebird, the focus shifts to Lela and Trajan, giving this more of an interconnected standalone feel. I missed Julian and Malina a bit, but Trajan more than makes up for it. He’s an absolute cinnamon roll—kind, thoughtful, and completely lovable—and his dynamic with Lela is different but just as compelling.
The characters and story feel more developed here, and the pacing is strong. The romance and spice are better placed and feel more natural than in Firebird, even if there’s less of it overall. The buildup surrounding Lela’s sister had me so impatient in the best way. The dual narration is excellent and really enhances the story.
Everything comes together nicely by the end, setting up the final book without ending on a cliffhanger. I’m very excited to see how the trilogy concludes.
Review of Bloodsinger by Juliette Cross Narrated by Blair Dade; Kale Williams 4.5⭐️
Bloodsinger delivers excellent dual narration, with Blair Dade and Kale Williams bringing depth and emotion to the story. The world-building is strong and immersive, expanding beautifully on the series mythology in this second installment.
The female main character is particularly compelling—a resilient heroine who has endured tremendous trauma and abuse yet continues to grow in strength and agency. The hero is kind, steady, and supportive, making him a wonderful counterbalance and an easy character to root for.
This was an engaging, emotionally satisfying continuation of the series, and I highly recommend it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook.
There were a few rough patches in the first book in this series but as a long time fan of Juliette Cross I was still so excited for this installment. I am so happy to say that she has truly hit her stride here. If you didn't enjoy the slave concept or had difficulty with the SA in the first book then I would skip this but anyone who has read any dark romance will agree this is a relatively tame romance with dark themes. The romance had wonderful pacing, the universe building was strong, the characters were engaging and multi-faceted. Excited for the third book, especially with the preview at the end
4.5⭐️✨ I loved the 1st book, and BloodSinger did not disappoint at all! Talk about female rage! Ladies, there are some scenes in the beginning that will piss you off, but don’t worry Lela steps into her powers and doesn’t need a man to protect her…but it doesn’t hurt that she has one who wants to.
Her journey to trusting another, her admitting that maybe the Gods are on her side, and her powers were fun to watch. I couldn’t wait for a particular reunion to happen.
Looking forward to the final book of this trilogy about Anya. I can’t wait to see how these characters will come together and show Rome that women are the stronger ones.
And yes, winning a Goodreads giveaway is possible 🤓
Thank you so much Macmillian and Net Galley for letting me listen early to Bloodsinger! This was one of my most anticipated books of 2026!
Once again, Juliette does NOT disappoint! I loved that Leela finally got her own story, and that characters from Firebird made an appearance! Dragons and fantasy in Ancient Rome is just….chef’s kiss!
Bloodsinger releases on 4/7/26 and I highly encourage you to read it!
Grateful to have received an ARC for this one! While I liked the first book in this series, this one truly captured me and I really couldn’t stop reading. Love seeing the magic develop. Also truly appreciated the authors handling of past traumas and how that shapes us. So many good elements. Will be eagerly waiting for the 3rd!
I’ve been looking forward to this follow up to Fire Bird, and I’m so happy to say it did not disappoint. I still feel like the concept is so intriguing and creative, and appreciate how this world is being crafted. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
This book was really slow for the first 40% but after that it really picked up and I was addicted to the plot and what was going to happen. I can't wait for book 3 and the war to continue.
I loved the first book and this book as well and am looking forward to the next one! This story is compelling, surprising and fantastic. I enjoyed the characters and the political build up.
This felt like a rehash of the first book, just with different characters. I will probably read the third book when it comes out, but hopefully it's not the same story again.
