A novella by Trent Zelazny, this one deals with a rather precise number: $3,087. Why that amount, you ask? Well, this story goes about filling in the gaps and making sure you want to go along for the ride. Nick’s lost his job and is getting desperate. But walking down the street one day, he finds an envelope just discarded on the sidewalk with $3,087 in it — a significant number to our hero. As I’ve said before about Zelazny’s writing, it sucks me in and drags me along for the ride — and I never feel like I’ve wasted my time. Each book or story I read by this guy just whets my appetite for more. Come on, $.77 isn’t going to break the bank…

In his writing career, Trent Zelazny has delved into dark operatic waters worthy of Cormac Macarthy with 'Too Late To Call Texas.' With 'Fractal Despondency' he penned a cathartically autobiographical piece about painful portions of his own life.

'Found Money' isn't in either of those territories. This is a silly little tale, light hearted and appropriate for most ages other than a little blue language. It's short, and the perfect length for a break. It made me laugh.

There is a real lightness with this funny little piece by Zelazny. The story revolves around Nick and the find of $3,000 in an envelope and the question of what to do with the cash when you really need that kind of money.
Soon enough we get villains wanting there cash back and that's where this story really comes into its own. The language and style of this novellette are perfect for the story making a quick and entertaining read. It also led me to wanting to read a lot more Zelazny.

I love brain candy stories. Stories that read quick, entertain and amuse me. I picked this one up as it was a good price and I was curious about Trent Zelazny's writing style. I like how easily he connected all the characters.

I enjoyed this story enough that I will be picking up other books by this author as I have time to read more in the future.

Light, short comedy piece, dedicated to and obviously inspired by Donald Westlake, but a lesser work with the hapless protagonist tangling with inept criminals over some misplaced cash. On my device the last few pages were in italics, which I doubt was intentional.

Reads like an episode of a TV show, and not a very good one. It's breezy, it's quick, and everything gets wrapped up in 30 minutes with over-explanation. I don't know, in the hands of the right director, it could be an amusing little caper to watch, but on the written page it's just too... pat.

This novelette is the perfect summer read, mixing noir with a healthy dose of irreverent humor. Fate, a lot of alcohol and one remarkably stupid friend conspire to turn the hero's life around, and around, and around...
Well-written fun, ideal for the beach!
