Awesome. Fun read! Great to read during October! Short stories by favorite authors. I still adore how Mr. Lovecraft can make a completely sane, normal, reasonable man into a raving cannibal in 2 paragraphs.
Some great tales, many classics I have read before, but was glad to take another look at. This collection is a must for those who love to be scared and to figure out a mystery.
This volume has been in my family's library for 50 years and currently resides at the cabin. It is the first thing I pick up to read when I get there as it includes the perfect summer-in-the-woods tales, Blackwood's "The Wendigo," and Jackson's "The Summer People. As well as these of my all time favorites: CASTING THE RUNES / M. R. James MAN FROM THE SOUTH / Roald Dahl DON'T LOOK NOW / Daphne du Maurier THE RATS IN THE WALLS / H. P. Lovecraft LEININGEN VERSUS THE ANTS / Carl Stephenson THE INTERRUPTION / W. W. Jacobs AN INVITATION TO THE HUNT / George Hitchcock SREDNI VASHTAR / Saki (H. H. Munro)
I enjoyed the many short stories in this book. By today's standards, terror is a stretch but a few were chilling. Also, I was surprised and pleased that a 007 short story and a Perry Mason story were included.
