Works of prolific Russian-American writer Isaac Asimov include popular explanations of scientific principles, The Foundation Trilogy (1951-1953), and other volumes of fiction.

Isaac Asimov, a professor of biochemistry, wrote as a highly successful author, best known for his books.

Asimov, professor, generally considered of all time, edited more than five hundred books and ninety thousand letters and postcards. He published in nine of the ten major categories of the Dewey decimal classification but lacked only an entry in the category of philosophy (100).

People widely considered Asimov, a master of the genre alongside Robert Anson Heinlein and Arthur Charles Clarke as the "big three" during his lifetime. He later tied Galactic Empire and the Robot into the same universe as his most famous series to create a unified "future history" for his stories much like those that Heinlein pioneered and Cordwainer Smith and Poul Anderson previously produced. He penned "Nightfall," voted in 1964 as the best short story of all time; many persons still honor this title. He also produced well mysteries, fantasy, and a great quantity of nonfiction. Asimov used Paul French, the pen name, for the Lucky Starr, series of juvenile novels.

Most books of Asimov in a historical way go as far back to a time with possible question or concept at its simplest stage. He often provides and mentions well nationalities, birth, and death dates for persons and etymologies and pronunciation guides for technical terms. Guide to Science, the tripartite set Understanding Physics, and Chronology of Science and Discovery exemplify these books.

Asimov, a long-time member, reluctantly served as vice president of Mensa international and described some members of that organization as "brain-proud and aggressive about their IQs." He took more pleasure as president of the humanist association. The asteroid 5020 Asimov, the magazine Asimov's Science Fiction, an elementary school in Brooklyn in New York, and two different awards honor his name.

The Great SF Stories 14 (1952) has been the best in the series so far, and I've been reading them in order since volume 1 (1939). Not only were there several famous stories:

- "The Pedestrian" by Ray Bradbury
- "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury
- "The Martian Way" by Isaac Asimov
- "Sail On, Sail On" by Philip Jose Farmer

But I felt I discovered some forgotten classics that really deserved to be famous:

- "Delay in Transit" by F. L. Wallace
- "What's It Like Out There" by Edmond Hamilton
- "Lost Memories" by Peter Phillips"
- "What Have I Done" by Mark Clifton
- "Fast Falls The Eventide" by Eric Frank Russell

And there were several lesser-known stories by famous science fiction writers that were top-notch tales:

- "The Moon Is Green" by Fritz Leiber
- "Yesterday House" by Friz Leiber
- "The Impacted Man" by Robert Sheckley
- "Cost of Living" by Robert Sheckley
- "Command Performance" by Walter M. Miller, Jr.
- "The Altar at Midnight" by C. L. Kornbluth
- "Hobson's Choice" by Alfred Bester

Even the lesser stories by Mack Reynolds, Kathleen MacLean, and John D. MacDonald were pretty good.

I've read 1 - 14 of this series, and I think this may be the weakest entry. Fast Falls the Eventide, Yesterday House, Command Performance, The Impacted Man, What's It Like Out There?, and The Martian Way are clearly worthy of the series while Delay in Transit and What Have I Done? are minor works at best. The others were enjoyable but tend to be very idea-centric, and some are quite clunky in execution.

That's 1952..."Pedestrian" good Bradbury, despite the usual quaint tone--"Sound Of Thunder" overwritten; Leiber's "Moon Is Green" surprisingly a bit shticky. Good Asimov "Martian Way"--well-constructed; a real knack for realism in science fiction. Hamilton's "What's It Like Out There?" one of the greatest stories ever--and a sort of companion piece stylistically to "Coming Attraction."
