Juliet E McKenna is a British fantasy author living in the Cotswolds, UK. Loving history, myth and other worlds since she first learned to read, she has written fifteen epic fantasy novels so far. Her debut, The Thief’s Gamble, began The Tales of Einarinn in 1999, followed by The Aldabreshin Compass sequence, The Chronicles of the Lescari Revolution, and The Hadrumal Crisis trilogy. The Green Man’s Heir was her first modern fantasy inspired by British folklore in 2018. The Green Man’s Quarry in 2023 was the sixth title in this ongoing series and won the BSFA Award for Best Novel. The seventh book, in 2024, is The Green Man’s War.

The question is what's the best way for me to get those stories to keen readers? And do you folks want more short fiction or some new novels?

No mainstream publisher is going to pick up a new novel series set in that world just at the moment. But if I'm going to keep writing full time, I really could do with a mass-market contract...

Would enough people be keen on say, a novel where we find out what's been happening in the Ice Islands, and over on Kellarin, to make self-publishing an ebook/PoD edition worthwhile? Maybe looking in more detail as the Sheltya and the Mountain society? I'd certainly like to write that.

There is a new Einarinn short story in the 'Journeys' anthology coming out next month, and I really enjoyed writing that. So I am certainly thinking about writing some more short fiction in that world this year.

That said - knowing how daunting I find it as a reader myself, when I see the latest in an umpty book series which looks good, but I cannot imagine where I'd find the time to catch up - I have worked hard to make all these separate series sufficiently stand alone that you can read one without having read the others. To give new readers a fresh entry point into this world with each of these four stories. At the same time, established readers have their own fun seeing what's going on with characters they've already met.

So take a look at the overviews of each series over on my website and see what you fancy reading next, as far as I am concerned :) (less)

Why can’t we sue the techbros for stealing our work?

I’m often asked, since I’m on the board of the Society of Authors, why legal action isn’t underway in the UK to hold the big tech companies to account for their wholesale and blatant breaches of copyright in using authors’ work scraped from pirate websites?

Well, for a start, class action lawsuits are much more difficult and complicated under English law than in the US. Even relatively straightfo
