Product description

Review

Tiptree's narratives of alien worlds and alienation make up one of science fiction's most vivid and influential bodies of work ― The New York Times

Tiptree's work is proof of what she said, that men and women can and do speak both to and for one another, if they have bothered to learn how -- Ursula K. Le Guin

Feminist dystopian fiction owes just as much to this woman - who wrote as a man - as Margaret Atwood. ―

5.0 out of 5 stars Named after a jam!

The author's bio was so intriguing I felt compelled to purchase. Her snappy, jazzy, humorous, weird stories are great fun. Yes, some gender relations / female representation stuff is badly dated but the fact this was a female author passing as male further complicates or makes that somewhat ironic / strategic. Great variety of ideas.

Great book with outstanding Sci-Fi stories, but you must understand good Sci-Fi really is philosophy. Book arrived in very good condition and early.

2.0 out of 5 stars Too depressing

After slogging through the first 5 stories, I'd had enough of the depressing endings. In addition, the author's many made-up nonsense words distract from some interesting ideas. I had read many rave reviews of this pioneer's work, and I will try the other collection at some point, but this one disappointed me greatly.
