- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 January 2016Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseBook 2 in the Series of 4. In typical Terry Brooks reliable style it contains both the word "roil" and the word "roiling". When you see either of those you know you are home.
Each book in the Series (I am currently reading book 3) inevitably re-tells episodes from the proceeding book. In fact this can be a great help if you have a time lapse between volumes.
In this book, I couldn't see how it was going to conclude. In fact the conclusion was quite dramatic and lead smoothly on to "The Elf Queen of Shannara. If you like fantasy fiction the complex tales woven by the good Mr. Brooks will never disappoint.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2013Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThis is another excellent yarn from the always-reliable Terry Brooks. Rather than comment specifically upon this work here, I just wanted to alert potential Kindle readers that, as at Oct 16th 2013, I have identified an issue with the Kindle edition, in that the last section of the book appears to have been truncated. [ Even the Kindle's own internal navigation system shows that, on the last accessible page, it is roughly 10% short of the end of the book... ]
In the process of reporting to Customer Services, and will update/remove this comment once I see it fixed...
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 September 2010Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseWhat can i say, if you have read the first book and liked it the the second is just as good. Not to give anything away, you will know who the Druid is quickly although its not confirmed untill the second half of the book. I read this in a week although I was on hoilday but I didn't want to put it down. I was forced to by the kids and the pool but could have read cover to cover.
I do like all for the various Shannara books and if you have started with this set I suggest you stop and start at the beginning of the previous set of books as events from these are refered to quite often. It doen't spoil your enjoyment at all, but will improve it without a doubt.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 October 2017Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseThe continuation of the story adds new characters, but builds on the characters of Walker and Morgan. As always the personal demons are part of the battle. One of the new characters is an assassin for the federation who loves to kill, the story is partially seen from his view, so adds a different dimension. Overall a very good book, possibly long winded in parts, but it has good, evil, love, hate and adventure, so very enjoyable.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 January 2006I have to agree with the ratings of 5 that have been given on this book. I was captured on page one and not released on the last one. I'm going to have to begin reading the third installment in "The Heritage of Shannara" series as soon as possible.
Quickening, Walker, Morgan and Pe Ell are the main characters in this book. They search for the Black Elfstone and Quickening seeks her fate. The book does touch minimally on Wren's search for the elves and somewhat more on Par and Coll's search and discovery of the Sword of Shannara. The ending was excellent and what brought it up to a rating of 5 in my mind. I cannot wait to read the next book. Happy reading!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 October 2013Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseLove Terry Brooks books, his way of writing is so intriguing and he the way he makes his characters come to life with such significant differences makes the story exciting. The Heritage of Shannara series is amazingly eclectic and the characters that have been introduced have quickly become some of my favourite characters in Brooks' world.
Highly recommend any fantasy lover to explore Brooks' Four Lands world, as it will intrigue and surprise you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic sorry - butchered the cover art
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseGreat book I read in school, wanted a copy for myself, I'm a fan of the Shannara series. But unfortunately the latest cover art sucks - it was way better in the past, older versions. The new one just looks like a bad digital mish-mash.
