5.0 out of 5 stars good quality for the price

This is an elegant piece of early-seventies book making from Knopf, with a beautiful dust jacket. It may have been in a school library since the card envelope has been taken out but there are no othe marks on the book or external tags ruining the appearance of the spine. The binding has turned toward the front board, which means it has been read, but carefully read by booklovers. It is very clean otherwise. It came from the selle well packed and inside a pefectly fitting plastic bag so arrived none the worse for wear. i supposedly have another coy on the way that I ordered before I ordered this one.

The prices are probably fair. The price for an as-new volume suddenly jumpts to ove 300 dollars. This seems quite steep for this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Many of us love John Collier because...
Reviewed in the United States on 6 September 2010
... Because he writes spooky really well. Because he writes sinister really well. Because he writes PEOPLE really well.

Collier has been acclaimed by so many that all I can add is: He's FUN! He's sinister and he's funny and he writes about twisted people without showing any signs of being twisted himself.

I gave this book as Christmas presents last year, and every single recipient LOVED it, and phoned me to say so.

I envy you who are thinking of purchasing this book -- DO BUY IT! You won't be disappointed, and even if you're a little unsettled, you'll be so proud when you've read his stories, that you'll find yourself wanting to push them onto other readers.

I think this volume must be one of the Top 3 Best Ever Christmas gifts EVER.

it's my entire desert isle library. I'll never stop re-reading it. But as it's Christmas present to myself, a review will have to wait until late in the year.
