5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read
Concludes the "Darkchild" trilogy. Good reading.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the previous novels
Darkchild, the first book of the trilogy, has been my favorite fantasy novel for decades - and the second volume, Bluesong, is also superb. But I was disappointed in Starsilk - maybe in part because there was so much emphasis upon the silks and the Sithi, alien creatures which were not too intelligent and had limited communication).
The result was a sense of the characters seeming disembodied, and less easy to identify with than the characters in the other two novels, who came alive on the page. Van Scyoc does not take us as deeply into her main characters' feelings in this book, and Juaren, in particular, is not well-developed. He is a bit of stick-figure, and one in more need of rescue by the heroine than her protector or partner.
I did, however, like the Birnam Rauth tie-in to the other novels (a concept which is quite original and intriguing), as well as other facets of the society which van Scyoc continues to explore. (And I also recommend her novel Drowntide, but not Deepwater Dreams).
