About the author

Sherry Thomas writes both historical romance and young adult fantasy.
On the romance side, she is one of the most acclaimed authors working in the genre today, her books regularly receiving starred reviews and best-of-the-year honors from trade publications. She is also a two-time winner of Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA® Award.
On the young adult fantasy side, there isn’t much to report yet, her debut book, THE BURNING SKY, book 1 of the Elemental Trilogy, has received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and been named to the Autumn ’13 Kids’ Indie Next List.
Sherry writes in her second language. She learned English by reading romance and science fiction—every word Isaac Asimov ever wrote, in fact. She is proud to say that her son is her biggest fanboy—for the YA fantasy, not the romances. At least, not yet…

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 October 2015Oh man, how do I even describe this book? It's big. Or it felt big, because it dragged for the first half. It took me ages to read it because the mind kept snagging at something and I'd lose interest and put it down. It's like it's been crammed too much with everything. I was starting to feel disappointed.
Then the second half happened. And suddenly it felt epic. It felt profound, and my heart was racing.
"Titus did not scream. He did not smash the furniture. He did not crumple to the floor, sobbing.
He lay perfectly still, listened to the soft breaths of her peaceful slumber, and wept in complete silence.
I love you. I will love you until the end of the world."
These two! Fairfax and Titus has such an amazing couple dynamics. There is a perfect balance of power and yet, there are reversed gender roles. She is the prophesied girl and he is a supporting character, who supplies her with means and training, and yet both have equally huge roles to play.
The Immortal Heights picks up where The Perilous Sea ended. They are in the desert and have to get out under Bane's siege. Throughout the whole book Titus and Iolanthe are joined by Kashkari and Amara - both amazing characters in their own right.
While running for their lives and searching for ways to get into Atlantis, the team continues to reveal old secrets, extra prophecies and Bane's own terrible past. That villain, boys and girls! He is perfectly evil and horrifying. When he is vanquished and as this is the last part of the trilogy and we all believe in happily ever after I am not revealing any shocking truths *grinning*, he is vanquished in a truly spectacular fashion.
And the sacrifices! This book is riddled with them. They are majestic and meaningful, and bring tears to your eyes.
"For what is the Void but the beginning of Light?" said Titus, quoting from the Adamantine aria. "What is the Light but the end of Fear?"
Iolanthe heard her own voice joining him in the rest of the verse. "And what am I, but Light given form? What am I but the beginning of Eternity?"
You are the beginning of Eternity now, she said silently to [omitted as a spoiler]. You have arrived at the end of Fear. And I will love you always, for as long as the world endures."
The ending is gorgeous, and I felt really happy leaving our characters like this, saying goodbye. So, my dear readers, persevere through the first half of the book, the rest is totally worth it. The whole series is wonderful and hugely recommended.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 October 2015Titus and Iolanthe have the seemingly impossible task of stopping the tyrant Bane. To do this they must get into his fortress, in the heart of Atlantis, to his crypt and destroy his original body. But standing in their way is the fact that they are in the middle of a battle in the Sahara and there are prophecies which have them doubting that they are able to complete their task. Will Iolanthe, Titus and their allies be able to defeat the Bane and overcome the obstacles in their way?
The Immortal Heights is the enjoyable final book in the Elemental Trilogy, however, it is my least favourite as I found it harder to get into and I generally felt underwhelmed. At some points in the book it seemed to jump from one thing to another without any explanation, but I did like that we got to see more of Atlantis in this novel as it has been an important part of the previous books. However, I did not find the romance as good and intense as the previous books.
Iolanthe is still stubborn and is determined but as the series has developed she has become more selfless and fierce, and she never gives up. Titus is what a leader and ruler should be, as he always has a plan and is intelligent but also is protective and has leant to open up to people. Kashkari plays a bigger role in this book than the previous ones, as well as his sister-in-law and unrequited love, Amara, and they prove themselves to be loyal friends and willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good.
The ending was predictable but I still enjoyed this book and series. I would recommend The Immortal Heights to fans of the first two books of the Elemental Trilogy, The Burning Sky and The Perilous Sea.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping and Suspenseful
"The Immortal Heights", the gripping finale to the "Elemental Trilogy" begins as the rebels with the support of Iolanthe (Iola), Titus and Kashkari battle the Atlantian forces in the Sahara desert. As the battle escalates Titus sends a deadly message about Bane to the ruler's battalions that results in their annihilation. With this monstrous act and his vicious assault on the Realm of Kalahari, Titus and Iola realize that the Domain is next unless they deliver a killing blow to the heart of Bane's fortress, destroying his reign of terror forever.
With death nipping at their heels Titus and Iola confront their uncertain destinies with the help of Amari, Kashkari, Mrs. Hancock and Horatio Haywood forging a plan to infiltrate and destroy the brutal ruler's crypt only to have to change it with every death that Bane claims.
In the final chapter of this thrilling trilogy Titus and Iola face not only the vicious talons and fiery breath of wyverns, armoured chariots and giant lindworms but the vicious savagery of a power-hungry ruler who uses blood sacrifice to prolong his life. With vivid imagery Sherry Thomas brings to life a fantasy world where the monstrous tyrant of a rich and prosperous nation uses fear, manipulation and warfare to bring the realms around Atlantis under his domination. Cleverly Sherry Thomas escalates the intensity and suspense as events unfold that have Titus and Iola recoiling from dreams and prophecies of death only to face their destiny head on as they bring the battle to Bane's fortress.
In this story reflections of the past bring new light on old alliances, family history and parentage which strengthen Titus, Iola and their friends resolve to destroy Bane. As events unfold that flow smoothly and quickly to an electric confrontation, the plot resonates with courage, perseverance, kindness, friendship and love. Even the romance between Titus and Iola takes on a new dimension as she struggles to bring optimism to their future that looks doomed from the start. Their love, and commitment to each other only grows stronger as new challenges threaten to separate them forever.
The characters breathe life into this captivating story with their complex personalities, bravery, and strength-of-will. Iolanthe Seabourne (a.k.a. Archer Fairfax) the elemental mage is independent, stubborn, loyal and determined to overthrow Bane even if it means forfeiting her life. Deeply in love and pessimistic Titus struggles to protect her only to have her rebel against any controlling measures he puts in place. Although wary of people and an exceptional liar, Prince Titus VII has an unbreakable drive to rid the land of this cruel Atlantian ruler who stole the lives of his parents. Of their friends Horatio Haywood is a caring guardian, willing to sacrifice his life to protect Iola; Mohandar Kashhari calm and confident, a passionate rebel; and Amari (Durga Devi) a cunning, cynical and impulsive militant. But for all the power, excitement and depth these characters and others lend to this story, it's the evil of Bane, the inhuman, malicious, power-hungry mage who adds a dark chill to the battle.
I loved "The Immortal Heights" with its riveting plot and unforgettable cast of characters. I highly recommend this fantasy series which will keep you spellbound from beginning to the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Breathtaking Ending to a Delightful Fantasy Series
This series has been an absolute delight to read; while there are some very serious conflicts and horrible bad guys, on the whole, the tone is a little more whimsical and light than many of your Epic/High fantasies, even for YA.
I love Titus and Iolanthe. They have such a refreshing relationship for YA; they are both quite brave, intelligent, humorous, and they rely on one another, especially in this book. Their relationship doesn’t tend to suffer from inane drama, and even the really bad situations tend to work themselves out in a more mature way. I never get tired of reading about them. Their romance is adorable as ever here; if you are looking for a lighter YA Fantasy with a heavy emphasis on the romance, this is the series for you.
So you know how in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows you get to this place where you think, ‘Rowling’s going to have to kill Harry. But she can’t actually kill Harry.’ There was this weird tension because you just knew he had to die, but you couldn’t believe she’d actually do it. That’s how I felt in The Immortal Heights. Because of the prophecies concerning Titus and Iolanthe’s deaths, I didn’t have any clue how Sherry Thomas was going to play it out. They’ve always assumed they (or at least Titus) was going to die; there wasn’t much discussion otherwise. But I also couldn’t believe that Thomas would really write the ending that way, knowing the tone of the rest of the books, which tended to be lighter and more optimistic.
Without spoiling anything, I’ll just say I…appreciated the way everything turned out.
Anyway. We get to see a lot more of the Domain and Atlantis in this book, as our heroes spend most of their time trying to save the mage world and everyone in it. Gone are the sunny days at Eton of the first two books; there is far more action and near-death experiences here. There was a section in the middle where we were sort of getting a really long history lesson about different people that I got a teensy bit bored during (which is the main reason I gave this book 4.5 stars rather than a full 5). But aside from that, the tension is sky high, and death does indeed take some familiar faces.
The showdown with the Bane is not disappointing at all. I raced through those last pages on the edge of my seat, wondering how in the world it was all going to turn out.
I was quite sad when I finished this book simply because it’s such a wonderful series and I was sad to see it end. I think The Immortal Heights is the best developed of the series, with the most detail, and you really get a good feel for the mage world in this one. Iolanthe remains a strong and likable heroine, with Titus as a dashing and noble hero at her side. I highly recommend this series for anyone who likes a good Fantasy story with a lovely romance added in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great End to a Great Series
It is always hard to come to an end of a series, especially if you've been waiting on tenterhooks for the book to arrive!
It was good--very good. Questions answered, plot developed in ways that I couldn't have imagined myself. The romance was good, the pacing was good, the drama and action were great.
I've only downgraded the book a star because some of the BEST themes of the series weren't fully developed in this final episode. What I LOVED about book 1 and 2 were the heart-wrenching conflicts Titus and Iolanthe face. Titus has to deal with tensions between public duty, private drive, and personal redemption. The question of whether to trust in destiny or rail against it, the issues of having to sacrifice integrity at moments when it becomes selfish, having to hide who you are, to keep some of yourself back and then to commit in moments of risk and uncertainty--these were the themes that makes the series so great. Most of them had been fully developed by the time we get to book 3, therefore they weren't as prevalent, as we focus on the main action of defeating the Bane. I understand the reasoning, but I did miss them.
Otherwise, it's a great read. What really sold it for me was the ways in which we got to see some old characters developed in wonderful ways (especially Kashkari and Amara) and we had some great moments with some unexpected characters (whom I won't name :). Those were my favorite parts!!
Well worth the read. What a great series! I hope Sherry continues to write within this genre. I, for one, cannot wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars ... can honestly say that this is one of my favorite series out there
I can honestly say that this is one of my favorite series out there. If you haven’t started it yet, what are you waiting for? I’m struggling with my review for just this reason… I can’t really put into words how satisfying this series was for me and the story itself was just everything I look for when reading.
The final installment of the Elemental Trilogy was everything I had hoped it would be and more. An epic story of love, friendship and adventure, The Immortal Heights wraps up this fantasy series in absolute perfection.
Iolanthe and Titus are on a mission to end the Bane’s reign of terror and in order to do so, they eventually have to find a way to get into the deepest parts of his fortress. But along the way, new prophecies will come to light that will alter plans and change lives…
My favorite part of this story is the evolution of the relationship between Iolanthe and Titus… the way their relationship has progressed through these books has been everything I could have hoped for. The friendship, the banter, the love… *sigh*.
And the love is amazing you guys. Thomas writes romance on the regular so she totally knows what she’s doing and she’ll absolutely make you melt and swoon.
“His breaths came in quicker.
With her other hand she traced his spine upward, vertebra by vertebra. His fingers sank into the deep pile of the carpet, trying to hold on to something. And she shifted – a muffled sound upon the carpet – and kissed him at the base of his neck.”
I want to keep going but I won’t.
Thomas keeps this series fast paced with a ton of action and it picks up where The Perilous Sea left off. Iolanthe and Titus and their friends are facing off with the Bane. I know I mentioned above the prophecies … they have played a huge part in this series and it’s no different in this installment. The prophecies are what drive these two forward, but things happen that even I couldn’t have figured out. AND I LOVE THAT! I love not being able to guess what’s going to happen or figure things out early and Thomas had me thinking one thing would happen and I’d turn the page and realize that I was completely wrong.
I have to mention the epilogue because it was absolutely the best. Like I said, I couldn’t have asked for a more satisfying end to this story.
Are you looking for an amazing fantasy series filled with magic, excellent world-building and amazing characters? Do you want to swoon over a love story and fall for each of the characters? Do you love amazing friendships and witty banter between characters? Then look no further. This is the series you need to read! I hope Sherry Thomas keeps writing for the YA crowd because I for one can’t wait to see what she does next!
I can’t wait to reread all three of the books back-to-back and experience it all again.
