With series such as Time Traders, Solar Queen, Forerunner, Beast Master, Crosstime, and Janus, as well as many standalone novels, her tales of adventure have drawn countless readers to science fiction. Her fantasy novels, including the bestselling Witch World series, her Magic series, and many other unrelated novels, have been popular with readers for decades. Lauded as a Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America, she is the recipient of a Life Achievement Award from the World Fantasy Convention. An Ohio native, Norton lived for many years in Winter Park, Florida, and died in March 2005 at her home in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fine example of storytelling from the days when explicit sex wasn't required to sell a fantasy
Another old favorite from Andre Norton. Her writing is a little mannered by today's standards, but it is always fun to pick out what the characters are ever so carefully not saying. It is a story collection, not a novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lousy job of translating from print to electronic
This is the first time I have found myself dissatisfied to point of writing a negative review.
I purchased the anthology because it had several of Ms. Norton's short stories I have never seen before [and as a serious Norton fan, a definite treat since she has passed away and her novels and short stories are rapidly vanishing from publication].
However, the collection also contained a couple of short stories I had read in other print publications ["Wizard World" and "By a Hair" being the most commonly available]. These had been seriously butchered, and I do not believe that it was an attempt to abridge the stories - it had more the look of a transcriber missing several pages of print during the change over to electronic format. And, based upon areas of the new-to-me stories which seem to lose their way, those were not the only oversights.
Spelling error and mis-wording caused by OCR applications I can deal with, wholesale elimination of pages which leave major holes in the story lines are another - and unacceptable - matter.
Though normally I would recommend Norton fans get their hands on any of Ms. Norton's products they can, this particular one I would not - and suggest looking for the inclusions in some other format.

5.0 out of 5 stars High Sorcery
All Andre Norton books are excellent, and this is no exception. If you haven't read her yet, try this book. Very good.
