Weeknotes 2025W30
This week, I created a new backup strategy for backing up my files. I found Restic and it is so much easier and better than my previous solution using rclone and encrypting with Kryptor. Each week, I run a script that backs up specified directories while excluding useless stuff (like node_modules and _build directories in projects). It saves the files locally on a T7 Shield SSD and makes a smaller backup for mission critical files that I copy to a drive in the cloud. It’s only been two weeks but I think this will be more robust and reliable.
This big event this week was going over the mountain to look for housing to move into next month. We toured a few places and drove around neighborhoods we liked. I feel like it shouldn’t be that hard finding housing for a budget-conscious couple and a cat but it’s causing quite a lot of stress. Especially because I don’t have proper employment yet and therefore don’t have any official income besides self-employment.
Shout out to La Hacienda Real in Salem. If you’re in the area, they have incredible food and there was a line out the door on a Thursday night. Staff were super kind too.

The ethos had become capture-and-retain, rather than swing-by-and-say-hi. Open-water internet navigation – surfing – quietly went away, as these platforms designed slicker and more magnetic engagement routines for us.
