"I have known Bob Stump since he entered the House of Representatives, and he has
been an outstanding leader there. He has the intelligence, work ethic and
integrity to be a great Corporation Commissioner."
Marc Spitzer, Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission member, former
Arizona Corporation Commission Chair, and
former State Senator
Representative Bob Stump has represented District 9 (Sun City, Peoria, Glendale
and Youngtown) in the Arizona House of Representatives since 2002. He is
campaigning for one of three open seats on the Arizona Corporation Commission
and would be honored to have your vote.
Bob understands that few issues are more important to Arizona's future than water
and energy.
In a time of rising utility rates, Bob will put the interests of ratepayers
first, much as he has always put the priorities of taxpayers first.
As your next Commissioner, Bob will stand up for ratepayers and consumers;
aggressively fight securities fraud and protect Arizonans’ retirement
investments; advocate for new water and energy infrastructure for our
rapidly-growing state; and pursue all avenues of energy production to secure
energy which is cheaper, cleaner, and more convenient to produce and obtain.
The Tucson Citizen writes: “As America is rocked by economic devastation, energy
shortages and price increases, shaky and questionable securities markets and
other woes, Arizonans must choose new ACC leaders with great care.” The Citizen
says Bob is “an innovator” who has “strong experience with public
policymaking…wise perspectives on energy use and utilities regulation…a
commitment to pursuing fairness for Arizona residents rather than kowtowing to
corporate interests.”
The Arizona Republic says Bob is "energetic…intelligent, hard-working and
effective...a quick study [and] a strong fiscal conservative… We like his
interest in expanding outreach to seniors to protect them from securities
fraud.” The Arizona Chamber of Commerce says Bob has “an outstanding track
record in the State Legislature.”
Bob serves as a member of the House Water and
Agriculture Committee, where he has helped promote sound water management
policies for our state — a key responsibility of the Commission. He has a wide
range of policy experience, having served as Chairman of the House Health
Committee; Co-Chair of the Joint Select Committee to Investigate Operations and
Conditions at the Arizona Veterans Home; Vice Chair of the Health and Rules
committees; and as a member of the Commerce & Military Affairs, Ways & Means,
Financial Institutions & Insurance, Rules, Ethics and Education committees. Bob
has also helped craft several multi-billion-dollar budgets for our state.
Bob's
groundbreaking policy proposals have made front-page news in USA Today and serve
as model legislation for legislatures throughout the country. He has discussed
key legislative initiatives on CNN; "Your World with Neil Cavuto," on the Fox
News Channel; National Public Radio; as well as various national and
international media. In 2006, Bob was a featured guest on C-SPAN's "Washington
Journal," which devoted nearly an hour to discuss his innovative policy ideas
with a national audience.
Arizona Capitol Times has called Bob one of Arizona’s
“Best State Representatives,” based on the opinions of Arizona’s civic and
government leaders. Bob has also received over a dozen awards in recognition of
his efforts to improve health care for Arizonans and protect Arizona's taxpayers
and families — including awards from the Alzheimer's Association, the Autism
Society of America, the Arizona Medical Association, the Arizona Healthcare
Association, the Arizona Association of Homes and Housing for the Aging, and the
Arizona Association of Community Health Centers, among others. Last year, the
March of Dimes honored Bob for helping improve the odds for Arizona's babies by
working to prevent birth defects.
Bob has been honored as a "Champion of the
Taxpayer" by the Arizona Federation of Taxpayers and has been awarded the "Eagle
for Enterprise" award by the Arizona Small Business Association for his work on
behalf of small-business owners. Bob has also consistently received a 100
percent rating from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).
Bob
holds degrees from Harvard University and the University of California,
Berkeley.
