Spotlight On...

Spotlight On... VERA CANTOR!

The early years of the Uncanny X-Men were populated by a vast supporting cast of non-powered humans. Sometimes these characters would go on to take active roles in the adventures of the X-Men... and sometimes they were a nuisance that comic writers had to find a way of incorporating into stories to further the growth of the main characters. Case in point, this mild-mannered, meek and often dowdy librarian who was the first girlfriend of Hank McCoy, the Beast. Frequently abandoned and neglected, this long-suffering girlfriend would often reunite with the Beast when he transferred to the Avengers and then the Defenders, only to be abandoned and neglected again. She turned her life - and her appearance - around when she returned to college and opened her mind up to new ideas, and briefly returned to the life of Hank McCoy in the early days of the original X-Factor. She would go on to make one final appearance in a touching "farewell story" to an often overlooked character - what happened there? And who is this woman? Read all about her in our Spotlight On...VERA CANTOR!

Spotlight on ERIC THE RED!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Often a mask for someone else, the "Eric the Red" identity has been used by Cyclops and Magneto in the past when obscurity was necessary. The man who truly owns the name is Davan Shakari, a Shi'ar spy planted on Earth to monitor the emerging population before Shi'ar first contact. He had a role in the original Phoenix Saga as mad Emperor D'Ken's loyalist, and turned up occasionally over the years as a renegade seeking to undermine his more benevolent successor, Empress Lilandra. He also played a part in the infamous "Third Summers Brother" plotline. The Age of Krakoa revealed Shakari had a deeper history and allegiance to the Kin Crimson, militant propagandists for the Shi'ar Empire whose work dates back to Threshold, the first mutant civilization on Earth from two billion years ago. Shakari survives, and his machinations will inevitably threaten mutantkind again.

PUBLICATION HISTORY X (2025)

In 2025, mutantkind is still reeling from the Fall of Krakoa. At the first Hellfire Vigil, a mysterious group called 3K publicly declares themselves as the inheritors of the mutant race, at odds with the X-Men's views. Before anyone can fully process this, the Age of Revelation begins. When Apocalypse chose Cypher to become his heir, even the Eternal One didn't anticipate the future that was to come. As for UXN, we'll see you in that far-future era of 2026! Happy New Year!

PUBLICATION HISTORY X (2024)

Dissolution and Rebirth! The Fall and Rise of X concludes as Orchis is defeated and the Dominion conquered. The nation of Krakoa is gone, however, journeying beyond the Far Shores of the White Hot Room. The X-Men and those mutants who chose to stay behind must face a world that hates and fears them even more than ever before. With the school turned into Graymalkin Prison and Xavier himself in isolation, mutantkind scatters to find their own way to weather what is to come.

PUBLICATION HISTORY X (2023)

The Fall of X begins. With faith in the Quiet Council at an all-time low after the Sins of Sinister debacle, Orchis moved in for the kill. At the last Hellfire Gala, the X-Men were killed, the Omegas were killed, X-Force was lost, the Krakoan gateways closed, and the nation's mutant population simply disappeared. In this darkest timeline for mutants, a rag-tag band of surviving X-Men held the line against Orchis's dominion over mutantkind. But they failed to realize an even greater Dominion was on the horizon...

PUBLICATION HISTORY X (2022)

In 2022, the Age of Krakoa showed signs of stagnation. The secret of Moira X and her timelines was revealed to the full Quiet Council, while the secret of mutant resurrection reached the public. A.X.E. Judgment Day was the latest crossover between the X-Men and the Avengers, now also featuring the Eternals. Several Krakoan titles were cancelled, and the ultimate plans of the anti-mutant agency known as Orchis began taking shape...
