Reacher is big for Prime Video, apparently, having scored a Season 2 renewal just three days after its premiere.
TVLine readers gave the Alan Ritchson-led, eight-episode adaptation of Lee Child’s first Jack Reacher novel, The Killing Floor, an average grade of “A”; read finale recap.
Since its launch, Prime Video claims, Reacher has ranked among the streamer’s Top 5 most-watched series ever in the U.S. and globally, with many viewers finishing all eight episodes during the first 24 hours of release.
“The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, [showrunner] Nick Santora’s original approach to the storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably binge-worthy series,” Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke said in a statement. “The global impact of Reacher makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show.”
Santora (Scorpion, Prison Break), who adapted the novel for TV, said, “The entire Reacher team — cast, production, writers, etc. — is so happy with the wonderful reception the show has received…. [E]veryone is excited to roll up their sleeves and get to work on what will be a great Season 2.”
Which of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels would you like to see as the basis for Season 2?
Titans alum Ritchson headlines the series as Jack Reacher, a veteran military police investigator who arrives in the small town of Margrave, Ga., to find the community grappling with its first homicide in 20 years. After the cops immediately arrest the drifter hobo and eyewitnesses claim to place Reacher at the scene of the crime, the mountain of a man works to prove his innocence and in turn unravel a deep-seated conspiracy.
The cast also includes Malcolm Goodwin (iZombie) as Oscar Finlay, Willa Fitzgerald (TV’s Scream) as Roscoe Conklin, Chris Webster (Most Dangerous Game) as KJ, Maria Sten (Swamp Thing) as Frances Neagley, Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) as Jasper, Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) as Charlie, Currie Graham (Murder in the First) as Kliner Sr., Marc Bendavid (Dark Matter) as Hubble, Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) as Young Reacher and Bruce McGill (My Cousin Vinny) as Mayor Teale.

Best news of the day!!! Loved the first season…can’t wait to see more😁
Great news…I absolutely loved it!
I know lots of people who binged this over the weekend, myself among them. I am not surprised.
Loved this series, binged it over the weekend! Very excited for Season 2.
A thrill just went down my leg.
No brainer! Glad they realized it.
It was smart decision to release all episodes at once. Most shows are the best to watch that way. Maybe if I Know What You Did Last Summer was released that way people wouldn’t lose interest in it. Prime should release all shows that way. Give us whole seasons at once.
The Boys is released weekly and it does well. It’s all about the quality of writing. I Know What You Did Last Summer did not have the writing to keep people’s interest. It shouldn’t have been called IKWYDLS anyways. It was mostly a Pretty Little Liars rip off. There was no mystery to that show and just had boring teeny bopper drama.
This. Binge viewing is great for viewers, but it is a disaster for the streaming service. It discourages long term subscriptions, which is the life blood of the industry. A superfan of the books could have done a free trial (if still eligible), and not paid 1 penny for the show. Or, a former, but not current subscriber, could pay for a single month, rather than 2-3 to cover the length of a weekly roll out.
.
I think here it was because it was a slow start (as were a lot of the books, and both movies) wherein it didn’t get good until Ep 4 or so. So a binge encouraged fans to watch it all. They gave solid reviews which has encouraged less rabid fans to watch.
.
I suspect S2 will have a more traditional roll out, with 2-3 eps premiering at once, followed by a weekly roll out for another month+.
I see lots of Disney+ plants here 🤭
Airing week to week keeps the conversation going and allows shows to grow. Yellowjackets is a recent example.
Some shows are better to binge and some are better weekly. to pretend like one is superiors is wrong.
I really enjoyed it. Watched all 8 episodes over night. I hope the second season will not takes years to premiere.
I say go in order Book #2 next! Fantastic 1st season! Congratulations on your renewal I can’t wait.
Yes excellent news
Words can’t express how happy I am about this. It’s the one time I wish we could post happy dancing gifs in the comments.
Really enjoyed the show. Binged it the first showing and it kept my interest until the bitter end. Did not know any of the actors except for Bruce McGill who has been great in everything. Sorry he was killed off. Richman was excellent in the role as were all of the actors including the female deputy who was his love interest. The actor who played KJ was scary as heck and so convincing. Happy it is coming back.
REACHER WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!…..Can NOT wait for season 2……Great Cast and story line…
I have read every Jack Reacher book in the series. The first season was based on the first book and they did a wonderful job with it. I hope each season is another book in the series and that they do them all!
Good, fast decision.
Cheap trashy airport books often make for really good, very entertaining TV series. This one was really fun.
These aren’t trashy in any way.
LOL okay. Listen, I like them too, but I know what they are.
LOL
I love the Reacher books. But yeah, they have their trashy parts. You can argue degree of trashiness and if it adds or subtracts from the story because that is more subjective. But it definitely adds some trashiness for flavor. For me, it has just the right amount of trashiness to be delicious entertainment..
yeah.. ok..
Just because it has a male protagonist doesn’t mean it’s not trashy.
🙄
Very ignorant. Stephen King has said Lee Child is his favorite writer.
Thanks Amazon Prime! Smart move renewing for a Season 2.
Hopefully they do Persuader next, or in the very near future. This show could last a very long time, because it has a legion of fans, and you’d have basically a new cast every season (which will keep the cost of the show down).
Great news!
I hope we don’t have to wait a whole year for season 2 of Reacher
Alan Richson IS Reacher come to life! He is the perfect embodiment of a character that is rich in idiosyncrasies and does it so well. Thank you Lee Child, for all the books and now the series!
Loved the first season. Of course, Alan Richson was easy on the eyes.
Awesome show! Was so glad to see there was going to be a season 2. Reacher’s character is so cool. Love Rosco too. I haven’t seen a show this good since Justified. It’s intense with a lot of action and drama. Witty and somewhat humorous as well
Can’t wait! Watched it over three nights, just a shame we have to wait a year for the next one! As good an adaptation as the Bosch series which was also superb and sadly missed now (looking forward to the spinoff).
my husband and I binge watched the whole season the day after it was released, can’t wait for the next season(s)
YEAH!!!!!!!
Ritchson nailed the character. The story followed the book. The Reacher character does not act within the bounds of normal society much less acting PC. It was a fun show
The Tom Cruise movies were good movies but they were not Jack Reacher movies.
