Eikasia
A downloadable traditional roguelike for Windows, macOS, and Linux
Eikasia
A traditional roguelike where reality itself becomes your dungeon.
You upload an image and it generates a sprawling labyrinth in full ascii glory… Then you try to escape.
This is an experimental prototype. I would love your feedback and appreciate any support you can offer the project to help resource it. Currently I am porting this to Gamemaker (it's currently in Python), so please stay tuned!
I plan to develop this into a fully-fledged traditional roguelike. Future features include but are not limited to:
- Sound effects
- Music soundtrack
- Building mechanics
- Ranged weapons
- More enemies
- More loot
- Spellcasting (inspired by Rift Wizard)
- Fleshed out story
- More and better ASCII and pixel art (this is one of the most time intensive parts)
- Improved dungeon generation
- Save/load game capabilities
- Many more things...
Thank you for playing and please get in touch if you find any bugs or have any suggestions.
The Trap
A demon has imprisoned you inside a representation... not reality itself, but a shadow of it. You are trapped within an image, a mere copy of the world, and the demon delights in your confusion. Ahhhhh... mimesis...
"Eikasia... the world of illusion. You must ascend."
The dungeon you traverse is not real! It's a photograph, a blueprint, a painting made manifest. You exist inside a copy while true reality remains beyond your grasp. The demon has populated this representation with creatures of myth: Minotaurs, Cyclopes, Harpies, and vengeful spirits.
To escape, you must find the Tear... the exit that will rip you from this representational prison back into the real world. But the demon won't make it easy.
Classic Roguelike, A Bit of Modern Polish
It is a love letter to traditional "Berlin interpretation" style roguelikes, featuring:
- Turn-based tactical combat... Every move matters. Plan carefully or perish.
- True line-of-sight FOV... What you can't see will hurt you
- Permadeath... One life! Make it count!
- Equipment progression... Find legendary Greek arms and armor
- Procedural dungeons... Every escape attempt is unique
The Twist: Turn Any Image Into a Dungeon
Upload any image - a blueprint, a photo, a piece of art - and watch it transform into a playable dungeon. Light areas become walkable floors. Dark areas and edges become walls. Your reality becomes the labyrinth.
- Circuit board? Now it's a high-tech maze.
- Floor plan? Your house is the dungeon.
- Abstract art? A surreal nightmare to navigate.
- Family photo? Escape through memories made manifest.
You can even upload images of dungeons, and it will give you a... dungeon...
