Plane On A Conveyor Belt

10-11-25

Yesterday I started seeing a bunch of videos again about the question of whether or not a plane on a conveyor belt can take off. There’s a huge internet argument over it, some saying it can take off, some saying it can’t. What it comes down to is how the question is phrased, because the answer is both yes and no depending on what is actually being asked and the assumptions being made because of a lack of specificity.

Pardon the poor art skills, this was a fast and dirty sketch.

Books On Policing

October 6, 2025

Sitting in my inbox this morning was an article from Police1 (which came on in July of ’25, which shows how much I’ve been paying attention) on books written by law enforcement officers. Some of them are fiction based on some of their experiences, but a couple of them are non-fiction which is what I want to focus on today.

The article can be found here, titled “Insight from inside: Essential law enforcement books for officers to read in 2025.” A few of the non-fiction titles are:

A-1 Skyraider

These photos were taken at the Fargo Air Museum some years ago, maybe 2005? I was still using 35mm film then anyway. Recently CDR Salamander posted a Full Bore Friday regarding these aircraft.

Woot, Woot!

I saw my oncologist again this past week. Great news, still cancer free!

Reading on digital screens

I’ve noticed this in myself. Reading for entertainment I prefer to use my Kindle or Nook. But when reading something I really want to understand, reference books for example, I prefer a deadtreeBook.

I worry about the push for schools to transition to digital content for learning. I think it’s a mistake. And this article seems to point to some problems with it.

The forgotten medieval habit of having ‘two sleeps’

For millennia, people slept in two shifts – once in the evening, and once in the morning. But why? And how did the habit disappear? It was around 23:…

Happy New Year?

Well, the new year is certainly starting off with a bang, in the worst ways possible.

In New Orleans, someone drove through a crowd of revelers, and then shot at the cops. Looks like there are other people who helped place IEDs around as well.

Now it looks like the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded in front of Trump Tower in Las Vegas was also a terrorist attack. Looking at that video footage, it doesn’t look like a battery fire, and Elon has stated the telemetry didn’t indicate a problem with the battery either.

In Hawai’i there was a fireworks accident that caused a lot of damage.

Locally, someone was shot outside a party in Fargo. And then I hear there’s a guy that blew his hand off early this morning in West Fargo.

Let’s hope things settle down. I want 2025 to be 2020-Alive!
