Everyone’s hyped about usage-based billing. What we’re seeing on the ground is a quiet disaster unfolding downstream. The value makes total sense: it’s flexible, aligns with value, and makes it easier for buyers to say yes. But let’s talk about what happens after the sale. Because what we’re seeing at Invoice Butler is a quiet disaster unfolding downstream. Here’s what’s happening: 1. You implement a usage-based model: maybe with Orb, Maple, Maxio or something custom. 2. Now you have to invoice. Because these aren’t flat charges you can auto-renew on a credit card anymore. 3. Each invoice is different. Different usage, different payment terms, different people to contact. 4. Someone on your team is now manually chasing every one of those invoices. Suddenly your “modern billing stack” turned into a giant spreadsheet, a bunch of reminder emails, portal logins, and late payments. So yes: usage-based billing is great for selling. I've heard great things about different usage based billing tools and happy to chat about our research on them. But it also creates a mess for collecting. You need to solve both ends of the pipeline. That’s why Invoice Butler exists: we automate the mess after the invoice is generated. Follow-ups, supplier portals, escalations, and all the back-and-forth it takes to actually get paid. Use Orb or Maple or Maxio or (any recommendations?) to generate the invoice. Let us make sure you don’t spend your whole month chasing them.

Revenue Leakage Most scaling SaaS companies are bleeding revenue in ways their dashboards will never show. MGI Research estimates that disconnected CPQ, billing, and finance systems leak 1%–5% of revenue every year. On $100M ARR, that’s $1M to $5M gone every year. At 6–12x multiples, that’s $6M to $60M in lost enterprise value. We’ve seen it firsthand. For one customer, we uncovered $2M in unbilled revenue—purely because their quoting, usage tracking, and billing were living in different systems. This is why customers move to Nue.io. Because with one system for quoting, usage, and billing—plus self-service and direct sales running on the same infrastructure—there’s no room for revenue to leak. When everything runs on the same foundation, nothing slips through the cracks. Every dollar quoted and sold is a dollar billed — by design. The companies that close this gap keep their revenue and build a strong base for compounding enterprise value. The ones who don’t? They’ll be explaining to their board why $2M quietly vanished.
