Book Review: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Gone Girl is a twisty, weird but good whodunnit that starts with the disappearance of Amy Dunne, whom the reader gets to know better throughout the book as the main plot device.

It’s a very enjoyable summer read with some funny and true observations. The characters make some feminist points and recursive film noir references - but Gone Girl remains uncomplicated and never reaches the point of becoming ‘a book you think about after you are done reading’. I don’t think it was intended as such.

The plot twist is good if not wholly unexpected, and the ending slightly contrived - but it didn’t hurt the fun. I still give it 4/5 stars.
