Roy has written extensively for Big Finish‘s acclaimed audio drama series, including scripts for The Confessions of Dorian Gray, The Omega Factor, and Doctor Who. His epic Dark Shadows 50th Anniversary Special Blood & Fire won the 2017 Scribe Award for Best Audio Drama. He won a second Scribe Award in 2020 for Doctor Who: The Creeping Death (starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate) and was shortlisted for a third time in 2023 for Doctor Who: Albie’s Angels. His most recent audio work includes new adventures for Paul McGann, Tom Baker, David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston.
As a novelist, Roy won a Scottish Book Trust New Writer’s Award (2010). The manuscript of his first book, Daemon Parallel, was shortlisted for both the Kelpies Prize and the inaugural Sceptre Prize. It was published by Floris Books in 2012. Werewolf Parallel (2014) – praised by Kirkus Reviews as “Clever, creative and fun” – completed the duology. Roy was approached in 2020 to develop an adaptation of his novels for an independent film production company. He is currently the full rights holder for these titles and as of 2025, is working on revised and expanded versions with the goal of returning these definitive versions to print.
Roy’s short stories have appeared in The Myriad Carnival, Out There: An Anthology of Scottish LGBT Writing and the British Fantasy Society Journal among others. His literary work is represented by Fraser Ross Associates.
Alongside writing licensed audio drama, he is currently exploring original work in several media.
Roy lives in Edinburgh with his husband and too many books and vinyl records. He misses having a dog.
