A few weeks ago, my buddies Joe and Chris, the comedy gold duo @buttsketch, posted the AMAZING pilot they wrote, The Twins. (Go to their profile and read it immediately because it’s the funniest!) I was fortunate enough to work with them to design the look of the show (that the powers that be passed on, sadly). Joe and Chris posted some versions of that artwork, but here are some designs from ANOTHER version of the show that is even weirder (like The Twins but throw in a nuclear apocalypse for fun). A year ago yesterday we lost one of the kindest souls and greatest artists, @jasonpolan. I was lucky enough to call him a friend and will always miss him. In this past year of isolation, his art of observation, joy, and community has meant all the more to me, and yesterday I was thinking about how he was so close to pure artiststry and creativity that this was one of the reasons why it felt like he was someone who would always be there. And it’s one of many reasons his work will always endure. If you love Jason’s work too, there are a couple new ways to enjoy it: check out Uniqlo’s new collection and tribute to him, and you can preorder the new collection of his Every Person in New York project (hands down one of the best art projects ever) from @dashwood_books, designed by @hansseeger. Or more importantly, share something creative with the rest of the world and spread some joy and wonder. Jason did that every minute of the day and we were all so lucky to experience his example.

As usual, I had a ton of fun working on branding with @dynastytypewriter superstars @flammydavisjr and @vanessahope to come up with this secret society/midcentury scifi/strange textbooks vibes logo for their new online undertaking. (And yes, for the logo heads that think this is too illustrative and complex for most uses, there’s a simplified version too… we got you covered, nerd!) The short version: It sure is unideal to be in the theater business during a pandemic! But like so many others, since this all started we’ve tried to remain resilient and optimistic and work with our team to innovate and expand in new ways. Financially, the results have varied so far, and there’s certainly a long road ahead for all of us in this biz, but we’ve been so lucky to have such a supportive community of audience and artists who are doing what they can to keep the Dynasty dream alive. One such way is in helping us LAUNCH A FLARPIN’ SCHOOL! Yes, it’s true! We’re super excited to announce the opening of The Dynasty Enchantiversity! We’re working with some of our favorite people to offer online classes in a variety of subjects and we’re genuinely excited about our first batch of offerings! A 4 week stand-up class with Cameron Esposito! A 4 week personal essay writing class with Dave Holmes! A one day pilot pitch seminar with Brent Forrester! A 2 hour improvisation class with Reggie Watts! (more details on that one forthcoming.) And hopefully there will be a lot more coming soon. In typical Dynasty fashion we’re trying to make every aspect of the Enchantiversity experience magical and we want everyone who takes a course with us to leave feeling educated, enriched, and OF COURSE, enchanted. This was a poster/image I made for absolutely no reason other than the fact that I love @buttsketch and think that @joemcadam and @chrispystephens are the funniest duo out there. I suppose my idea was that they could use it at a “show” where “people” would “gather.” That used to be a thing!
