About the Author
DANIEL BRAUM writes short stories that explore the tension between the psychological and the supernatural.
He intentionally adopts the term “strange tales” for his Twilight Zone-like stories in homage to author Robert Aickman and the intentional ambiguities of his work.
His latest books are the short story collections Phantom Constellations: Strange Tales and Ghost Stories from Cemetery Dance Publications and Creatures of Liminal Space an illustrated edition from Jackanapes Press.
His stories have appeared in places ranging from the The Best Horror of the Year Volume 12 edited by Ellen Datlow to Shivers 8 edited by Richard Chizmar.
His short fiction can be also found in his collections Underworld Dreams (2020) from Lethe Press, the illustrated chapbook Yeti Tiger Dragon (2016) from Dim Shores, The Wish Mechanics (2017) from Independent Legions as well as his debut short story collection The Night Marchers and Other Strange Tales from Cemetery Dance Publications
He is the host of the Night Time Logic reading and interview series. Find him at bloodandstardust.wordpress.com.

A word on the mailing list. In short, it is no frills and will be infrequent. If I get my act together I’ll send something out quarterly otherwise I’ll just send something out to announce a new book or a publisher sale or something like that.
I run the list personally and will protect your privacy and never rent, sell, nor share your information.

Thank you to my friend and colleague, Jacques Messerau author of the Evil Exists Trilogy, for posting the first review of Creatures of Liminal Space on Amazon
“In his latest book of stories, Creatures of Liminal Space, word artist Daniel Braum’s sherpas the reader of open mind to dream worlds and cosmic borderlands. Once in ‘the Braum Zone’, your conscious self can connect to the invisible subconscious, revealing things you know, but never knew.”

I was fortunate enough to speak with host Jason White about Creatures of Liminal Space over at Jason’s Weird Reads.
We spoke about Dan Sauer’s wonderful art. I read from the book and more.

Author Daniel Braum returns to Weird Reads to discuss his latest collection, Creatures of Liminal Space.
In this episode, we delve into the dreamlike, slow-burn nature of Braum’s horror stories, exploring how he utilizes atmosphere and ambiguity to build dread, and what “liminal horror” truly means. We also explore how his work blends speculative elements with emotional realism, and why the scariest things are sometimes the least explained.
If you’re into quiet horror, ghostly metaphors, and stories that linger long after the last page, this one’s for you.

Daniel Braum’s Creatures of Liminal Space explores the spaces in between places and the strange, weird, and numinous encounters you might have there. In this collection, you will find three short story length selections of Braum’s hallmark strange tales (including one original to this book), interspersed among twelve dark and wondrous flash fiction length selections. Braum and illustrator Dan Sauer invite you to traverse these labyrinths of the liminal, and join them on a phantasmagoric journey replete with dark and ethereal denizens haunting exotic borderlands far-flung and shadowy corners just next door.
Discover the heartbreaking secrets of a Loch Ness Monster sighted in the lush jungles of Central America.
Learn who or what the enigmatic Jaguar King is protecting with the wild cats of a remote swath of tropical forest.
Traverse patterns of love and loss and time—and learn if our friendships and truths, like constellations of stars, are real or perceived.
Ghosts. Hauntings. Monsters. Creatures. Cryptids. Fear. Darkness. Loss. Wonder. Heartbreak. Mystery. The Strange. The Uncanny. The Liminal. The Interstitial. Labyrinths of time. Love and Desire. The edges of civilization. Longings for the lost.
Braum’s intentionally ambiguous stories are akin to those you might find in the original Twilight Zone show, and will delight readers of Ray Bradbury, Lucius Shepard, Robert Aickman, and Tanith Lee.
“Emotionally complex, character-driven stories of wanderers, people far from home and far from comfortable in their own skin. Not since Lucius Shepard has a North American fantasist written so deftly about Central America. Braum’s superb stories are well worth the read.” —BRIAN EVENSON, Author of Good Night, Sleep Tight and Song for the Unraveling of the World
Here is an excerpt from Joshua Gage’s recent review of CREATURES OF LIMINIAL SPACE at Cemetery Dance online.
“Creatures of Liminal Space is a collection of short stories, mainly flash fiction, focused on interstitial creatures. Most of these tales are short, no more than a page or two, but that doesn’t stop them from being ethereal and effective. Braum is able to craft tight stories that are both haunting and deliberately abstract, almost gothic in their mystery. Many of these tales revolve around travelers and explorers in distant, remote locations; Braum is able to tap into the cultural shifts faced by these narrators and expound them into otherworldly strangeness. Whether it’s the Costa Rican jungles of “Boon of the Monkey God” or the markets of India in “In Search of Elephant Corners,” Braum’s protagonists are thrust into the unfamiliar, which Braum twists into something more strange and haunting with his writing.”
