This is a commission that took me too many months to complete (sorry, Tim!)

Last post for a year that didn't see a lot of art-action by yours truly.

I'm gonna raise a large gin and tonic tonight to a more art-ful 2013.

After hours of laboring over my sketchbook, back in my dark and steamy corner of the Sazerac Lounge last night, I relaxed and scribbled a little portrait of petite and lovely Lula Loops with more energy and freshness in it than all my other drawings combined.

So I scanned it and added some color.

A pencil portrait I did of one of my favorite deviantArt stock photo providers, Jade Macalla, from one of his excellent photos.

I always meant to finish this by drawing the rest of the pose but now I like the incomplete quality of the drawing so—I'm calling it done.

My too-late entry for Faestock's Creative Challenge #11

I took Jessica up on her suggestion to try a different medium. The line work was done in the ink-resist technique, which yields unexpected results and pretty much obliterates the details of the original drawing. Watercolor was added and some Photoshop fiddling was done as well.

I don't think I've drawn a horse since I was around 12 (when I was crazy about 'em.)

Recent Dr. Sketchy sketches, featuring the wonderful juggling gunslinger, Will Oltman.

(Note: Will did not actually pose in a bikini; that was an entry in the "draw him as a her" contest.)

Had a great time at the Sazerac Lounge in Grand Rapids last Sunday for Dr. Sketchy's: A Black Heart Valentine. I made a serious effort to loosen up a bit, inspired by the immense amount of creativity at these events.

This delightful and effervescent lady is one of the reasons Dr. Sketchy's is so much fun. (Check out her Facebook page and website.)
