It is a big day :)

Today is a big day my friend and I have a birthdaay :) :) only an ocean and one year that are between us.
Also our countries among other Europian countries will compete tonight in the yearly Eurovision song contest which is held this year in Bærum outside of Oslo because last years number one song was from NORWAY the wonderful Alexander Rybak won with his Fairytale with a record of votes.  So cross fingers for us tonight.  Unfortunately my favorite song this year didn´t make it to the final :( it is a beautiful song performed by Anna Bergendahl from Sweden.
Also today we have election day here in Iceland for a new city council so there is a lot to do today.

Make Do Memories Miniature Quilt Challenge

Finally I have finished the Make Do Memories Miniature Quilt. I am a last minute person, I can never finish until the last minute.  I had been planning and thinking a lot when I finally took the plunge and finished.  What I wanted to show with the quilt was friendship amongst quilters all over the world.  The hexagon flower in the center represents Lyn and the stitchery lines from there to the corners are how the flowers flew around the world landing in 7 different countries.  I stitched the names of all the countries into the hexagons in the corners (all in Icelandic).  In the corner where Iceland is stitched I also put the name of the quilt in Icelandic "Vináttugarður Lyn" which means "Lyn´s friendshipgarden"  This was so much fun and I want to thank Lyn for giving me the opportunity to take part.

Volcano eruption

Update:  Now the eruption is in Eyjafjallajökull itself and here is a new link hopefully it works but from time to time it doesn´t because of the online traffic.  There have been big floods and will be while the glacier is melting. Evacuation is something that the people around the volcano are getting used to.

Here is a link to watch the eruption on-line. It is more beautiful to see in the dark, then the glowing lava can be seen.  The eruption is between Mýrdalsjökull og Eyjafjallajökull in the south of Iceland. Tha lava and ash has mostly gone to N-W but yesterday that changed and a part of it went to the South.

Virtual world blog tour... Iceland

It was Chookyblue´s idea to make a tour around the world visiting blogging friends. She challenged her readers to show pictures from their country and here I go.
We start at my home.  My dear friend Carole sent me these gorgeous gifts, chocolade that my "boys" argued over, how many have you eaten? I only had one... A perfect collection of fat quarters.  And see the beautiful notion holder, Carole´s husband made it and he also made...

this for my little princess, how sweet is that :)

Then Lynda sent me a pattern and was so sweet to give me this to put hot pots on.

The lets go outside.  On my way downtown I came across this, first rally competition of the year.

After driving along the seaside and almost downtown is this "ship" called Sólfarið or The Sun Voyager.

As you can see it was snowing, not the best weather to take pictures.  In the center of Reykjavík we have the parliament. It was built 1879-1881.

Not far from it is the Catholic cathedral of Iceland Landakotskirkja. The door to the church means a lot to me as my grandmother´s brother made the hings not long before he drowned at the age of 29.

Don´t you think this is beautiful?

Maybe this could be used as pattern for applique or stitchery!

If you would come and visit me I would not show you much more here in Reykjavík.  I would instead take you to my favorite part of the country, the western part.  My father was born there.  There is something magical about being there.  As it is winter and I am not going to travel soon I searched the internet and found beautiful pictures from my favorite places.

Here my father spent many summers as a child. A part of our family lived there and took care of the lighthouse.

All these places are in a small radius from each other. We could drive from my home and see all these places just in one day.  So just come on over I am waiting for you.

SSCS 2009

I am so sorry for the blog break I took, it wasn´t planned the days/weeks just flew by.

Today I would like to share with you what I got from my SSCS 2009 partner, first the ornament and other goodies. The calender has some beautiful pictures from Claire´s country.

And here is the main present, the quilting is beautiful.

I sent this to my partner, here is the ornament

and here is the main gift

I would like to thank Donna for hosting the swap another year, I can´t imagine how much work it must be to keep it all together.

I am very proud of my daughter, she made this Christmas skirt a few days before Christmas, I only helped her by saying how she should do things, I didn´t do one stitch on it

I have more to share later this week.
