Why don't I care about the Artemis mission/program?

Community iconc/asklemmy@lemmy.world by
artifex@piefed.social

By all rights, this should be something I am deeply passionate about. I’ve been in tech/engineering my entire adult life and was obsessed with NASA as a kid. I even live on the east coast of Florida and can sometimes see the launches/landings over the ocean. But I just… don’t care at all. I’m not suffering from depression or any other malaise, and generally things are fine. But I haven’t clicked on a single link or looked at a single image. I know this has not been the case for many, many people, so I’m wondering what might be different about this launch (or really the whole program in general), and curious if anyone else has found themselves feeling the same.

Government Ordered to Turn Over Files on ICE Agent Who Killed Renee Good (theintercept.com)

The order came in response to a motion from the defense attorneys for Roberto Carlos Muñoz-Guatemala, a man who Ross attempted to apprehend in a separate confrontation in June. After Ross broke a window in Muñoz-Guatemala’s car and fired his Taser, Muñoz-Guatemala drove away and was later convicted of dragging Ross with his car.

Mexico's President Sheinbaum Decrees Universal Healthcare for 120 Million (thedeepdive.ca)

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has issued a landmark decree to establish a Universal Health Service, initiating a process to ensure all 120 million citizens can access any public medical institution. The first phase begins April 13 with the rollout of a new Universal Health Credential, starting with citizens aged 85 and older. This unified digital and physical platform aims to eventually streamline care across facilities like the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), and IMSS-Bienestar.

It’s been a month since Fetcharr released as a human-developed (I think we’re sticking with that for now) replacement for Huntarr. So, I wanted to take a look at how that landscape has changed - or not changed - since then. I know this is a small part of an arr stack, which is a small part of a homelab, which is a small part of a small number of people’s lives, but since I’ve been living in it almost every weekend for the last month or so I’ve gotten to see more of what happens there.

The measures were contentious. Many fishers feared the new rules would make their businesses unviable. Yet the biological results have been striking. In October 2025, officials announced that yelloweye rockfish (Sebastes ruberrimus), the final species previously classified as overfished, had recovered to “healthy” levels. Some scientists had once expected the rebound to take decades longer.
